Have you heard someone say “We take photos as a return ticket to the moment that is otherwise gone?” I do not know who said that piece but I like it. Gives me enough reason to look into my files and document moments and even memories. Here is another beautiful story of the past. Date written: May 14, 2012.
My mother bought a big piano for the boys. I thought the boys would just play the piano whenever they feel like touching its keys.
I was wrong.
Less than a week after the piano arrived, Second son let me hear “Best Day Ever.” It is one of the songs in Spongebob Squarepants. When I asked him how he learned of the notes, his plain answer was “I just played along with the song and tried to find the scale that matches the melody.”
Honestly, I don’t have an idea on how “to find that scale that matches the melody.”
A few days and I heard new tunes — piano compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Beethoven’s.
Weeks passed and the kids are now finding by themselves the keys of various church songs — Anima Christie, Take and Receive, See Ye First…
Hours became days, and weeks turned into a month. And as always, I am excited to come home and hear my boys play the piano. Why? because before they start, they have this very special message that truly melts my heart “This song is for mama.”
Di ko rin magets yung scale that matches the melody. Nosebleed. Second son is really something else.
sometime else talaga. minsan, parang nakakatakot na yung galing nila. ehehe.
This is a really touching story.I can imagine how the words ‘this song is for mama’ melts your heart. It is really nice to see how your kids learn to play piano without much efforts. They sure have inborn talents for music!
“wido”, that’s our term for it.. a wido kid is the one who can play music instrument and pieces without any teaching or anything.. they can play the song just after hearing it somewhere.. that’s a talent! You got a cool kid! Wow
Yun! Wido. I heard that from my mom. I just dont know how to spell it. Wido. Thanks for the compliment. 🙂
That is pure talent right there! Ang galing kasi kahit wala pa syang formal knowledge about music, he was able to play a piece na narinig nya lang. Nakakabilib talaga for a very young age.
thank you. because of his interest, my mom enrolled him sa piano lessons. kaso ngayon natigil na naman because of school. he also get to attend lessons kapag summer vacation.
I’m not good with playing the keyboard. I’m better at guitars and I somehow understand what he means. We use our ears for this to find the right chords/key that matches the song. Pero your kids are a lot better. I heard Gab play the piano and I was so impressed! They’re really talented. ♥
hahaha. i cant make music with just using the ears. lagpak ako dyan. and i am happy na si nate can play instruments na even at a young age. influence him pa more, bes.
Your kids are not only good in school, gifted din. I don’t understand din yan scale and melody. hehehe! Ipa-piano lesson na. 🙂
thank you. they are curious kids kaya often, they would discover things on their own. my mom enrolled them once sa piano lessons. kaso because they have school, tigil din ang piano lessons. 🙂
Wow! Kami we have an organ here from when I was smaller. The kids tend to just press random keys and make “music”. Haha, I hope next time they can discover also by themselvea those scales and melodies like your son! Asa pa ako haha!
Hahhaha. hope is a good thing and no good thing ever dies. eheheheh. asa lang. surely they will make music din. macucurious sila and before you know it, they play melodies na.
Congratulations on having a musically-inlcined kid! Kids need patience and talent for that. I also want my daughter to learn how to play the piano when she’s a bit older. 🙂
yes, I think learning to play any musical instrument would somehow help to instill discipline and patience sa mga kids. Hope to hear your daughter play the piano someday.
Aww. I remember when my dad bought me a piano organ eons ago. Hindi ko natutunan, kahit anong pilit ko. I think that piano is meant to be in your house. 🙂 Ang sarap ng feeling when you’re going home to something that you’re looking forward to everyday.
Now I need to find that piano organ sa bodega and let my kids play hahaha.
yes, nothing beats that feeling. Hahaha, i feel you. I would want to learn how to play the piano as well but then perhaps I do not have the patience. It was my mom’s wish that i learn how to play the piano. but because we do not have money then, she cant buy a piano. That’s why when we finally got the money to buy one, she urged the boys to learn how to play.
