Work Smarter, Not Harder

You know it, and you have been told about it.  Work harder, and you will achieve that goal.  Only that you aren’t sure how hard and long is harder.

Good thing though that as you work your butt off, you soon realize that working harder just can’t be enough.  A classic example would be: you’ve been tasked to shred more than a hundred pieces of paper into thin strips.  And you use a pair of craft scissors to finish everything.

It’s nearing lunchtime, and you aren’t finished yet.  It is because you need the appropriate material to fast track a task.  Or you need the right strategy.  This clearly shows you need to work smarter, not harder.

Momi Berlin enumerates ways how you work smarter and not harder.

Set your goal

In every task, there is a goal.  Just like shredding those pieces of paper, the goal is to shred them into thin strips.

The goal is your purpose and it would lead you to plan your actions to achieve your task.  Your goal as well will help you determine the most appropriate resources to use to accomplish the task the fastest and most efficient.  Do not forget as well, to set a timeline.

In the example to shred the paper into thin strips, you need a paper shredder to finish the task most quickly and efficiently.  With a paper shredder, you could give yourself two hours maximum to complete the job.

In setting a goal, focus on that particular aim and block negativity.  As sometimes negative thoughts and surroundings may hinder you from focusing on your goal, it helps, too, that you generate a strong aura of positive energy from charms that serve as your negative blocker. Charms like the I Am Band is one.

We have been using the I Am Band for a month now, and we may say we’ve been spared from negativity.  The intense aura of positive energy leads us to move forward and focus on our goal.

Do not multitask

Probably, your boss would love you to multitask.  Even you would find multitasking as an advantage to finish several tasks in one sitting.  The truth is, you only feel like you’re working hard because you are continually shifting from one task to another.  Sadly, it harms your overall productivity and focus.

While writing a report, you are online, and an e-mail pops out.  You open it, skim the content, and remind yourself to answer it later.  Then a chat message from a friend pops out and you realize you’ve been exchanging messages for about an hour already.  As you go back to your report, you need to backtrack to determine where you left off.  This kind of working is not a smart move.  It is, on the other hand, wasting time.

We have noticed since we got the I Am Band, we are more directed on a particular task. Our I Am Band stimulates focus, helping us direct the brain to convince our hands, eyes, and body to finish first one task.  We guess this isn’t just a mere placebo effect, but more on sharpening the connection between the brain and body and how they work together.

Sharpen your axe

Working on a complex task may require you to separate yourself for a few minutes from your working environment.  This reduces tension and gives your brain a chance to rest for a while.  This also explains why an idea suddenly pops out while you’re just being idle or resting.  As you come back, you are more than eager to finish the work.   So [tweetshareinline tweet=”take the time out to sharpen your axe as it is worth many hours of hard toil” username=”SPk3(ad*e(5d4@pEwem@tnlADFb9ZZc8:1:1″].

Prioritize

You are finishing that report when an officemate approached you for a quick e-mail revert.  You accommodated the request as you believe it wouldn’t take much time.  Perhaps true but it did distract you.  The best way to handle those kinds of favor is to prioritize.

Know your priorities.  Give yourself a timeline.  Know then the less priority items.  Politely inform your office mate you will attend to his request after you’re done with your report.  He would surely understand it.

Another trick to reduce distraction is to work offline.  Working with your Facebook and e-mail open will surely distract you. The person on the other end isn’t aware you’re running against time to finish a report. So the trick again is to be offline until you’re done.

Identify your strengths and weaknesses

You know yourself better than anyone.  [tweetshareinline tweet=”Work on your strengths as you know you will be more productive on the tasks you are good at” username=”SPk3(ad*e(5d4@pEwem@tnlADFb9ZZc8:1:1″].  [tweetshareinline tweet=”Delegate then the items you know that would slow you down” username=”SPk3(ad*e(5d4@pEwem@tnlADFb9ZZc8:1:1″].  Or perhaps work with a team to finish a duty you aren’t too familiar with.  Make sure, though, to get pointers and learn new tricks from your co-workers so you will be able to master that unfamiliar undertaking.

We aren’t too sure about spiritual attacks brought by people who wish you harm, but these are possible.  Such individuals may unwittingly chant a bad spell on you all the more hitting your weaknesses.  This is what we love best about I Am Band.  This stainless steel and 100% silver bracelet is said to destroy any hexes, black magic, and harmful energies that are being directed against you without your knowledge. Since wearing it, we feel and see a more positive aura and clearer energy around us.

Exercise punctuality

[tweetshareinline tweet=”Be punctual not only on meetings but to yourself as well” username=”SPk3(ad*e(5d4@pEwem@tnlADFb9ZZc8:1:1″]. This especially holds effective if you work from home. Begin your work at the same time every day.  And though you do not have a bundy clock, know when to stop working.  You would only feel exhausted every time you tell yourself “I need an extension or finish this.” Staying up late might hinder you from waking up early and your whole schedule the next day would certainly suffer.

Respect Sabbath

Even Jesus took a rest on the seventh day.  Exhausting yourself to too much work is not working harder. On the contrary,  it may lead to burnout.

Burnout can wreak havoc on your happiness, health, relationship, and work performance.  Respecting your own Sabbath will also bring peace to your soul and your work.

Carry a notebook and pen

Funny yet very useful.  Or always have your mobile phone’s notepad ready.  There certainly be ideas that would suddenly pop into your head.  And the best way to capture such thought is to write it down.

There are also moments when you just stand or sit idle. Instead of wasting your time waiting for your doctor’s appointment, you could jot down notes for that article you’ve been wanting to write.  You may be amazed you were able to finish a 300-word write up while waiting in line.

Be quick, but do not hurry

[tweetshareinline tweet=”Smart people value relationships and connections” username=”SPk3(ad*e(5d4@pEwem@tnlADFb9ZZc8:1:1″].  They are also quick to revert, but aren’t always in a hurry.  The difference?

A smart individual answers e-mails quickly even if the answer is “I will get back to you on that.” Aside from being courteous, he never passes on opportunities.  [tweetshareinline tweet=”Inquiries are opportunities.” username=”SPk3(ad*e(5d4@pEwem@tnlADFb9ZZc8:1:1″] Even a simple thank you e-mail to you is an opportunity – opportunity for you to be polite as well.   He would surely remember that act and would love to work with you again.  So better not disregard those simple thank you or inquiry e-mail.

But do not hurry.  A smart worker is quick to respond and move but isn’t in a hurry to give everything without revisiting first his game plan.  Haste makes waste, they say.

Surround yourself with smart choices

Talk with smart people.  Take them to lunch or dinner.  Read smart books.  Take them to bed or train.  Listen to smart audiobooks.  Carry them with you as you walk or travel. Attend smart workshops, and apply what you have learned in your daily dealings.   Avoid hard people.  They will only drag you down and push you to work harder because they are just bitter.  Avoid hard books. They will only push you to follow non-sense.  Avoid hard audiobooks.  All they would do is convince you because they are too hard to sell.  Avoid hard workshops. They are only a waste of time and money.

Work Smarter, Not Harder

Beyond knowing and using the resources around you, working smart entails having the strategy to accomplish a task.  It is reaching the goal the quickest and the most efficient way possible.  Most importantly, working smart produces a positive result and realizing that at the end of the day, you also learned something from it.  [tweetshareinline tweet=”Work does not merely exist to attain financial freedom or fame but to have a sense of being” username=”SPk3(ad*e(5d4@pEwem@tnlADFb9ZZc8:1:1″].  So next time your boss pushes you to work harder to get that promotion,  leave him because he is not one smart employer worthy of your time and value.

Another thing.  It doesn’t hurt if you have a charm or a symbolism that serves as your negative blocker and protection.   Whether you believe wholeheartedly in all of the benefits of I Am Band, among other charms in the world, there is no denying that wearing one is an aesthetically-pleasing way to calm the mind and in a way, boost to increase your overall well-being and productivity.  Try it to believe.  We just did and we are happy with the results.
