MOMI INVITES| Hakab Na! 2017

Jul 10, 2017 | Life, Likes, Love, Only Berlin

BREASTS: Proud maker of the healthiest fast food.

I read this once, found it witty yet true.  There are times my son just do not want to eat anything and all I could offer is my breast.  He seems contented after his substantial dose of breastmilk, often taking a nap after I nursed him.

He is 22-months now and still breastfeeds from his mama.  I am on my 39th weeks of pregnancy and I chose not to wean my son.  Not yet.  Because I feel and see he isn’t ready yet.  And his mama is not giving up either.  Again, my breasts produce the healthiest fast food for my son. I just can’t let go of the fact that I could offer him comfort and food at the same time and also enjoy his company.  Breastfeeding has become our bonding, something just between the two of us.

My breastfeeding community

Though not a first-time mom, I am new in breastfeeding.  Part of my success in breastfeeding my son is a community ready to support other parents on their breastfeeding journey.  A blogger friend introduced to me an online support group called Breastfeeding Pinays (BFP).  Though not very active as a member, I often read hot parenting topics concerning the proper feeding of children.  It is also through this group that I got the courage to breastmilk even outside the house.  There are just other people who would love to stare at and mock you while nursing your baby and BFP provided that added boost not to give up.

MOMI INVITES| Hakab Na! 2017

Aside from the moral support they are giving their members, BFP will be hosting this year’s Hakab Na! 2017.

Hakab Na! is the biggest assembly of breastfeeding families in the Philipines.  It was first introduced last 2013 and since then provides proper support to nursing mothers.  It aims to promote the health and economic benefits of breastfeeding and eventually create a breastfeeding nation.  It happens annually every August just in time for the National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. For this year, it will be held on Saturday,  August 5, 2017 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Cubao in Quezon City.

What makes this year’s Hakab Na! extra special is the Big Latch On (BLO) celebration.  This is an international activity where mothers from all over the globe will simultaneously breastfeed their little ones within a minute to set a world record. It is also good to note that the Department of Health supports this gathering.  There would even be Hakab Na! areas all over the Philippines.  This is for those who would like to join but are not able to fly to Manila.

Momi invites| Hakab Na! 2017

Nothing much to do on August 5? Why not be part of the millions of breastfeeding moms who are proud to flaunt their breasts not to seduce but to offer nutrition to their dear little ones.   After all, again our breasts are a proud maker of the healthiest fast food.

Totally agree to that. Breast milk is the most nutritious food you can offer to your child. Not only that, it gives the child antibodies to protect them while their own is stills developing. Breastfeeding is also a natural way of contraception..There’s a lot of great facts about breastfeeding so do not be ashamed if you’re doing it. Be phone proud mama! 🙂

There’s nothing wrong with breastfeeding. Totally natural, and something us ladies have been doing since the beginning of time. “Breast is best”, so the old saying goes – and science shows that it’s true.

I hope this event will enlighten other people. I don’t understand why it is okay to wear sexy clothes showing cleavage but it is not okay to breastfeed babies in the public. Babies have their own rights too and they need milk.

You are so lucky to be able to breastfeed your little boy until 22 months! wow! This is one of my regrets being a mom e… that i should have breastfeed my son much longer. It’s economical and its healthy pa.

Although I’m also a mom of 4, I’m also practically a newbie at breastfeeding. I’ve heard of Hakab na but wasn’t aware of what they really do there. Now that you’ve explained it, it really sounds like a great event for me to attend especially since I am such a proud breastfeeding mom now. Will put this in my calendar! 🙂

I could not relate yet on a personal level, but I’ve heard from my cousins who have already given birth that breastfeeding is one of the most nutritious way of feeding your baby. I actually agree that breastfeeding could create a great bonding for moms and children. It’s a nice thing that an event like this could exist since some breastfeeding moms get discriminated in some parts of the world.

Kudos to all breastfeeding moms. So happy that we know have a very active and friendly community who supports moms all over the country. I would also check if we have “Hakab na” celebration here in Bacolod.

Why should women be embarrassed at breast feeding their kids? In India, till a few years back, breast feeding used to be very common. These days, of course, women are very conscious of the society’s attitudes and beliefs.

Yes, a lot are conscious. But there are always capes they could use to hide their breasts. Nursing dresses and blouses are also aplenty to help make breastfeeding convenient. I just hope they make use of these to lessen being conscious about it.

Will you be joining? I might be joining the event in South pero pinagiisipan ko pa. Mahirap kasing bumyahe with an infant and a toddler. But hopefully, God-willing, I will be able to join. These kind of mommy events are fun because you get to meet new friends. And making friends with mommies who hold the same principles and advocacies as yours such as normalising breastfeeding gives an extra boost to our morale. Ang dami pa rin kasing “unaware” na nangba-bash ng breastfeeding mommies, noh?

I would love to. But just like you, I do not know how to manage a toddler and an infant. Perhaps if the husband would help me. hehehe. I agree that such activity would help us gain friends who would eventually be part of our support group and who would cheer us up in times there are bashers and the likes.

Breastfeeding is sometimes a challenge yet rewarding.Yes,I am also a mom who breastfed my son till he is 3 plus. 🙂 That’s the best food I could give him.It is nice to hear about the breastfeeding support groups. At the time my kid was born,I was really new and dint know about such breastfeeding support groups. But I know if I had such support,it would have been really helpful for me…

Support groups can be a real help. But your effort to breastfeed your baby until three years old wasn’t bad at all. I hope I could do the same with my son. We are now in our 22 months and counting.

Nice to hear you’ve been breastfed as well. My mom also tried it but for months only as she needed to go back to work that time.

One thing I learned from schools and some other seminars I attended before on how beneficial it is for kids to be breastfed… I salute those moms who are not embarrassed at all to breastfeed their kids even in public places….it only showed how much they care for their kids above anything and anyone else .. kudos to breastfeeding moms!

I don’t understand people who are against breastfeeding. My mother did that with me and my two siblings and we are all fine and healthy. I am not a mother yet but once I am breastfeeding is going to be a regular process. Good luck with the event, sorry I can’t be there myself.

I was blessed to have been surrounded by breastfeeding friends when my kids were babies, so I had a lot of support back then.

Unlike you, i decided to take my middle child off my breasts when I got pregnant with my youngest. He was past almost 2 years then and it was hard for me because I had all the symptoms while taking care of him and a four year old. So I decided to transition him to the bottle already so I could manage better.

Healthiest fast food … I never heard anyone say that, but I love it.
I absolutely support you. Nature has created us this way, we should really keep the babies nutrition natural (of course if it is possible due to health conditions)

I’m not a mom yet but it certainly helps to be aware of breastfeeding. There are really a lot of benefits to the child for breastfeeding. So women shouldn’t be shamed for breastfeeding their babies even in public. Of course, women can’t be cooped up inside the home just because they have a baby to nurse. Good thing there such an event to encourage women.
