Here for Her Campaign
To celebrate International Women’s Day for this year, the United Nations Population Fund in the Philippines (UNFPA) launches the “Here for Her.” The campaign engages all stakeholders to accelerate the pace in empowering women and girls to realize their rights and full potential. The flagship campaign promotes commitment to end preventable maternal deaths and unintended pregnancies. It also aims to prevent gender-based violence as well as other harmful practices.
Coincides International Women’s Day
The launch of Here for Her Campaign coincides with the celebration of the United Nations’ International Women’s Day. The campaign carries the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”
Dr. Leila Sajii Joudane, UNFPA Country Representative to the Philippines, said in a statement that “Women and girls are powerful leaders and change-makers for climate adaptation and mitigation.” As climate change is not gender-neutral, it is, on the other hand, a multiplier of existing inequalities and vulnerabilities.
Dignity and health of women
UNFPA upholds the dignity and health of women and girls, especially during humanitarian crises. They do this by addressing the delivery of emergency reproductive health kits, ensuring safe childbirth, and responding to gender-based violence. Such efforts are seen in previous calamities, including Super Typhoon Odette (Rai).
