The numbers are alarming. And yes it seems most just don’t care.
The spread of germs
1.5 million children around the world die every year because of diarrhea. It is also considered as the second most common cause of death among kids. The first on the list is pneumonia, claiming 1.8 million lives globally each year.
If only the simple habit of handwashing with an anti-bacterial soap is properly practiced, such incident may have been reduced. Because one of the fastest ways to spread germs and diseases is by human contact and ingestion of contaminated food. The numbers presented only show that we haven’t nurtured the habit of proper hand washing.
The spread of love
Thus, Safeguard, the nation’s leading soap brand, spearheads a movement to a healthier Philippines through the Global Handwashing Day.
This year’s Global Handwashing Day celebration has Alden Richards to educate Filipinos on the importance of handwashing through the power of a song. The song promotes the habit to wash hands with Safeguard in five “hugas non-negotiables” acts — before “mano” , after using the toilet, before eating, after playing, and before bonding. Likewise, it wittingly calls everyone to spread love and not germs especially this coming holidays.
The spread of hope
In a statement, Jia Salindong-Du, Safeguard Philippines Brand Manager said that “the campaign ultimately calls every Filipino to do their part in promoting handwashing to keep them healthy and protected from germs.”
If the majority of Filipinos would just believe and realize the impact of personal hygiene, most probably there would be fewer cases of diarrhea and other illnesses caused by germs.
There is still hope, though. With Safeguard’s Global Handwashing Day, the hope for a healthier Philippines is very much possible.
