I was cleaning my draft page when I saw this unpublished post. Made me smile and remember how the boys and I used to be so close. I drafted this last September 18, 2014.
Congratulations to my three boys who never fail to make their parents proud. Thank you for giving importance to your studies and also spending the time to help at home. Your mama truly appreciates your effort.
To our Firstborn
To my firstborn, I am so impressed with your initiative. You research and make your own assignments and projects. I need not remind you of your duties at home, too. Thank you for helping me. You are really a big help to me and your papa.
I saw you one time downloading “How to Train your Dragon” the movie. Then I remembered the time when you kept on repeating that we watch that movie. Instead, your little brothers preferred another flick and we, your parents, agreed with them and not you. You must have really liked that film.
And so, I am giving you this book– the complete book of dragons — as I am pretty sure you will take care of this and read it from cover to cover.
Also, I chance upon these little piano correction tapes for your ballpen. I knew from the first time I saw these that you will love them and take care of them.
To our Second Son
To my young man M, you’ve been very vocal about your love for mythology. And so when I saw “Mythical Creatures and Minor Deities” at a bookstore, I grabbed it and bought it for you. And then I passed by the Rick Riordan aisle because I remembered your request to your tita Smash — “Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods.” I cannot choose between the mythology book and Riordan’s latest masterpiece. So I decided to just buy the two books. An image of you with your eyes glowing with delight as you open the package played in my mind. And I was right. You indeed jumped for joy when I handed to you your new books.
To our Big Bunso
And to my cutest Big Bunso, you are always a joy to watch. Sometimes, I wish you would remain innocent and young forever so I could enjoy your sweet kisses and hugs. But I know I am being too selfish.
When I asked what you like to receive for being in the top 5, you just requested for a new ballpen.
Yes. You told me teacher allowed you to use ballpen starting this second quarter. And so I looked for that multi-color ballpen you want. I hope you like my present to you, dear Big Bunso. Those aren’t too much but the responsibility of using them weigh too much –using a ballpen requires less mistake because its ink dries as soon as you write on the paper. Be careful then, my little prince.
Sweet treats for Sweet successes
Again, to my three loving boys, mama appreciates your effort. Thank you for being so responsible. Your papa and I are so proud to have you as our children.
Love life. Enjoy school. We are always behind you. And again, congratulations!
Wow, this a really impressive post! I think it’s wonderful that you’re proud of your children and that you stimulate them to do what they love and what they’re good at. I think many children would love hear this from their parents! It’s great that you can write it down so well. Make to sure to let them read this when they’re older as well. Such a nice memory.
This is a beautiful post! I’m glad you eventually published it. Your family is really beautiful and you’re doing a great job as their mom.
Even today, these boys still give you awards school year after school year. Really smart kiddos. And, there are two more gems waiting to show you what they got also. I am excited for Yael and Sam! I’m hoping Nate will also grow to love books, music, and sports.
Lucky you, your kids love to learn. Books made them happy, how I wish my son will be a book lover too. Next year pa kami magballpen, I’m sure I also need lots of correction tape.
No wonder. You have such sweet boys because their Mama’s even a sweeter person. I also rejoice on every milestone that my babies are achieving. So alam na, pag lumaki sila, we’ll be celebrating every achievement and learning rin. Personally, that’s how I show appreciation din naman.
Congrats to your boys for having such nice study habits and getting academic awards. Of course, congratulations also to you and your husband because if not for your guidance, your boys wouldn’t turn out responsible. 🙂
Thank you. But honestly, it is more of the boys’ effort. 🙂

Awww, you are one awesome mother! I love that you have individual messages for your sons. Too often, kids are given generic gifts; messages like this send kids a “message” that they are special persons.
i love writing to my boys before. now, i do not do that anymore. and i regret it somehow. i need to make amends.
You are such a sweet and thoughtful mom. Your boys are really blessed to have you. I’m sure they all appreciate your efforts to show them how much you love them.
Love them dearly. Though lately, I am more of a monster mom to them than the usual loving mom they have come to love. Eheheh.
Aaaw, the boys truly deserve those sweet treats! I honestly was teary eyed reading this. I am moved and I felt your sincere gratitude on how the boys’ have become. I actually envy you on how responsible they were towards their studies and other responsibilities.
This inspires me to push more on my son’s working attitude and focus to improved on his well being. Yun pala, kaya ako naiyak! In our case, we need intervention and specialized learning to instill my 4th grader’s sense of responsibility and work attitude.
