MOMI LEARNS/ valued lessons from calligraphy

It is after they took a calligraphy class when she learned that beyond acquainting oneself on the decorative style of handwriting, there are valued  lessons from this art of writing.

I learned of his interest in calligraphy when I saw him experimenting with his handwriting. From then on, I would buy him books and pens to support his new found love.  Seeing that he enjoys following the book and even watches some tutorials on youtube, this mother decided to look for classes to help her son level up.

Fortunately, an opportunity to learn clay art led me to know The Crafters Marketplace. A go-to-place of hobbyists, The Crafters Marketplace is a small yet pleasant craft shop offering cute knick knacks from pen holders to handmade necklaces and stationeries. We enrolled in a 2 1/2-hour calligraphy class with Honey and Joe as our teachers. The husband and wife tandem is very passionate about their craft that it very well reflect on how they handle the class and how they answer each query. They are patient and generous to even share tricks on how to save on ink or how to write legibly.

After the class, I asked my son if he enjoyed. He said yes. I checked as well if he learned something new. He said he learned of discipline. I asked him to elaborate. And I am just so happy he sees and thinks beyond –

DISCIPLINE

Valued lesson learned from calligraphy #1: Discipline

He wants to improve everyday and so he needs to allot time to practice. He knows so well that practice makes perfect. And he says discipline is needed to follow his schedule to practice.

Aside from discipline, he mentioned about Perseverance.

PERSEVERANCE

Valued lesson learned from calligraphy #2: Perseverance

He says calligraphy itself is hard. But despite that, he reassures me he will not give up. He will give time to practice and each day, there will be improvements.

More than anything, though, he learned the basics of calligraphy. And it was all he needs- he told me- to explore and develop.

And as for this mother, she learned that it is never too late to learn something new. Calligraphy is something alien to me and yet the fulfillment and happiness I feel every time I see my handwriting improve is just so overwhelming. I also have to credit my son for pushing his mama to discover her passion.

They say calligraphy is the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush.

She has always love calligraphy. She prefers, though, to continue dreaming and imagining herself doing calligraphy until her son showed enthusiasm. She joined her son and together they explored something new. And they both enjoyed.

What to pursue that passion? The Crafter’s Marketplace holds regular Calligraphy sessions at their cute workshop studio at the Rustan’s Supermarket in  Shangri-la EDSA Mandaluyong City. You may check the schedule at their Facebook page.

And I know exactly where it is because I nearly always pass by since I am at the mall when I am not in Quezon City or Makati. You are correct in saying discipline and perseverance can be learned and only if it is intentional.

Gotta make the connection like you did for it to become a lesson.

I love it when a parent supports their child’s creativeness. I would’ve done the same thing for my son. Just give him the basis training and he’s off and running. Thank you for posting this. Behind every great child is an amazing mom. ;_

Learning calligraphy is good practice, aside from the fact that you’re going to learn how to write beautifully, you also learn good values along the way. Like what you experienced! I think aside from discipline and perseverance, you also learn patience.

You are one super cool mom! I’m sure that all your efforts are much appreciated. On a different note, I would have loved to learn calligraphy but it’s something that I have been putting off for a while. Hopefully, I’ll have time to squeeze it in.

I took calligraphy in school and I absolutely loved it. I had horrible handwriting and it make me feel more confident. These lessons you have put together are genius.

Caligraphy reminds me so much of my grandmother. She used to make beautiful prints for us as children and I still have several of them to this day.

I envy you! I want to succeed in calligraphy, but my personality is so impatient that I often fail at my many attempts to practice. I suppose I have to want it more, so that I will put extra effort into the practice!

Good thing that there are calligraphy lessons being conducted nowadays. Those who are born to have the talent in doing so are very much lucky indeed. But for those who don’t, they can now make it happen. I believe it is possible to practice at home even without taking any lesson – online tutorials perhaps?

Caligraphy is such a beautiful artform and so much becoming extinct in the States. Its sad to see things like this go by the wayside. I took Caligraphy when I was in Middle school. Actually I lost the teachers pen and didn’t go back for weeks:D.
