A Mom’s First 3K Run Experience

Joining the Milo Marathon 2025 was one of those spontaneous decisions I made—one that I knew would challenge me but also teach me valuable lessons along the way. I signed up for the 3K run, the shortest distance among the race categories, thinking it would be a simple jog. But as I crossed that finish line, I realized it was more than just a run—it was an experience filled with laughter, self-discovery, and unexpected friendships.

Running Alone Isn’t Really Running Alone

I showed up at the starting line alone, with no running buddies or a support crew to cheer me on. But once the race started, I quickly realized that even when you start alone, you’re never truly alone in events like this. Along the way, I met like-minded individuals who shared the same goal—to finish the race and enjoy the journey. Some exchanged smiles, others offered words of encouragement, and a few even paced with me for a while. Who knows? Maybe some of these quick race-day connections could turn into long-lasting friendships.

Come Prepared—Or At Least, Learn from It

Let’s talk about running gear. I have to admit—I am not a sporty person. I don’t even own leggings, jogging pants, or even proper running shorts. So what did I wear? A skorts and a blouse. Yes, a BLOUSE—because that’s what I had! At least, I had proper running shoes, right? But as funny as my outfit was, I learned an important lesson: having the right attire matters. Proper running gear helps with comfort, movement, and overall experience. Next time, I’ll make sure to invest in breathable workout clothes—but if you don’t have them, just bring your enthusiasm. The excitement and energy of the crowd will push you through.

Hydration is Everything

I didn’t think much about hydration before the run, but by the time I reached the second kilometer, I was grateful for the water stations along the route. Staying hydrated makes a huge difference, especially in long-distance runs. I now understand why seasoned runners always remind beginners to drink water before, during, and after the race.

The Start Can Be Overwhelming, But the Finish is Worth It

At the beginning, I felt nervous seeing the crowd, especially the more experienced runners. I questioned whether I should even be there. But once I started moving, all those doubts faded away. The key is to just start. You don’t have to be the fastest; you just have to keep going. The moment I crossed the finish line, even though I was out of breath, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment—something that only comes when you step out of your comfort zone.

It’s Not Just About Speed—It’s About the Experience

In marathons, everyone has their own pace. Some sprint, some jog, and some walk when needed. And that’s okay. What matters is that you enjoy the journey. Whether you’re a first-time runner like me or a seasoned marathoner, the real reward is the experience itself—the people you meet, the lessons you learn, and the feeling of achieving something for yourself.

The Milo Marathon 2025 was more than just a physical challenge—it was a life lesson wrapped in a 3K run. It reminded me that it’s okay to start alone because you’ll find your community along the way. It taught me to come prepared but to also embrace the imperfection. Most importantly, it reinforced that trying something new, no matter how unprepared you feel, is always worth it.

So, will I join again next year? Absolutely! But next time, I’ll make sure to leave the blouse at home.
