Celebrating Halloween is something not in our culture. We Filipinos, however, often adapt to what the West is doing thus we now have Trick or Treats and Halloween parties among other practices. And I must admit, it is something I also look forward to. Even the boys get thrilled whenever they receive lots of candies and toys.
For years now as well, we attend Trick or Treat events. We even decor the house with some scary do-it-yourself monster mask, paper bats, and cobwebs using cotton.
This coming November 1, we will again visit our grandparents’ tomb at Dasmarinas Cavite. And I plan to make a few Halloween goodies as our baon. I will also save some for the kiddos who would knock on our door for some trick or treat.
Quick and easy Halloween goodies recipe
This would be my first time to whip some ghoulish goodies for the boys and some neighborhood trickers. And honestly, if Maya Kitchen didn’t share this recipe, I wouldn’t even think of creating some trick or treat sweets. When I saw how easy the procedure can be and how cute the goodies turned out, I’ve decided to make a trip to our favorite bake shop and buy a few ingredients.
HOMEMADE HALLOWEEN GUMMIES
I love gummies so these will definitely be included in everybody’s goody basket. These refrigerated treats require very little preparation time. They can also be molded into different shapes and sizes, something I look forward to doing with my boys.
Ingredients
1/2 cup fruit juice (fruit juice of your choice)
3 tablespoons lemon juice
4 tablespoons gelatin powder
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/4 cup glucose syrup
Procedure
Combine the fruit juice, lemon juice, and the gelatin powder in a medium-sized saucepan and mix until the gelatin blooms.
Place the saucepan over low heat and allow the gelatin to melt completely.
Remove from the heat and stir in the corn and glucose syrups.
Pour the gummi syrup into a silicone molder and let it cool, place it in the refrigerator to cool faster.
When chilled, remove the gummies from the molder and serve.
Yield: 3 dozens 1oz small gummies
HALLOWEEN PURPLE DONUTS
I love baking. This is something I have come to embrace. It all just started when I attended The Maya Kitchen’s Bake Magic Together class with my boys. I saw my children’s enthusiasm whenever I let them do the preparation. So we invested in a really nice oven and make it a habit to bake something at least once or twice in a week. Good thing as well that, from time to time, The Maya Kitchen shares recipes for us to try and enjoy.
For the next recipe, Maya gives a twist to the Maya Oven Toaster Butter Cake Mix. Aside from the usual rectangular butter cake, one could make some Halloween Purple Donuts using the Maya Oven Toaster Butter Cake Mix. It would be more enticing to eat if one tops the ube-flavored mini donuts with chocolate and candy sprinkles. These colorful sprinkles would definitely brighten up any party table instantly.
Ingredients
3/4 cup water
4 tablespoons ube powder
1/2 teaspoon ube extract flavor
4 tablespoons softened butter
2 pieces eggs
1 pack MAYA Oven Toaster Butter Cake Mix 200 gms
1 cup orange color chocolate bar (cut into cubes)
1 tablespoon cream
1 tablespoon butter (melted) violet colored candy sprinkles
MAYA All-Purpose Flour, for dusting
Procedure
Preheat oven to 350⁰F/177⁰C.
Grease and dust mini donut pan with all-purpose flour and remove the excess flour.
Set aside.
In a bowl, mix water ube powder, and ube flavor to create a soft ube paste.
Set aside.
In another bowl, beat together softened butter and eggs.
Add in the ube paste and butter cake mix, then lightly mix until well blended.
Pour mixture into prepared pan and bake for 9 to 10 minutes.
Using a double boiler, melt chocolate, together with milk and melted butter.
Once the chocolate is melted, dip half of the donut cake and sprinkle on top of the chocolate coated donut cakes candy sprinkles.
Let it rest on a tray and place it in a refrigerator until the chocolate hardens.
Thaw and Serve.
Yield: 12-15 mini donuts

These treats will sure make Halloween even more interesting for the kiddos. I would love to try the gummies, if only my son would eat them! But, I think it will be effective if I’d use our Lego mold and his favorite pineapple juice! 😀
I love this! Madaling gawin at nakakakilig makita ang finished products! Matutuwang tiyak ang mga bagets! Pwede ring bonding activity with the kids ang cooking. Galing!
Its been a while noh? Parang kaka-new year lang and then its halloween already! I was thinking tuloy, where did my january to september go? Hahaha! Anyhoo, those were cute and really looks yummy! Kids will definitely love it! I wish i could have the luxury of time to bake too. Haven’t used my oven for quite some time now.. and i love to make my own goodies too!
Well, true that! Halloween is not a big thing here but since the world is changing, so are we. These recipes are truly yummy!! I think that these are not just for Halloween but also for all time with just a few tweaks. Oh btw, are you and your boys going trick or treating this year?
I love these Halloween treat ideas! Jael would love these! The doughnuts look great but I think would be a bit hard to make for someone who doesn’t bake! I’ve been wanting to take a Maya Baking or Cooing class.
I really love this kind of recipes… I remember last Halloween, we made those bloody fingers out of sausages and spiders out of mini Oreos.. I guess this kind of dishes will help you unleash your creativity! I love that red and black heart gummies
I still have no clue what to prepare for the Halloween party this year haha..
I can only imagine if I have kids then I would as well try the recipies out. I want to learn how to bake so the donuts is another handy recipe. Maybe someday I can try this out but right now with only me and my husband with our furbaby, I think we’ll passed out the holloween celebration this year.
I love this! Will definitely try making these for my little cousins this Halloween ☺☺☺
As the recipes are really easy to do, even if it isn’t Halloween it can still be done. I love gummies, by the way, so I’m thinking of doing it as well. For the recipe that you’ve shared, even if I take it out from the freezer, it won’t melt? Plus, will it be chewy like those sold in stores?
These are so creative! I’m sure my kids will love these too but I don’t really make Halloween goodies because we usually celebrate it out of the house. But they’re really super nice. 🙂
I agree, kelan lang nauso yung mga Halloween event, we don’t have this when we’re still kids. I’m still thinking if we will attend a Trick or Treat event. Pwede din pala sa donut ang Maya cake mix.
these treats for kids will surely make a fun and tummy full Halloween celebration
Wow! It feels like it was just a few days ago when we were all in The Mind Museum for the MBP Halloween Party. Now, just a few days left and it’s November na! Where did time go? But of course, I’m not complaining! This is what I want so Dane can go home na, lol!
I want to try the gelatin recipe! I have a star-shaped mold here, baka yun na lang gamitin ko. 🙂 I have an overn pero hindi ko lagi nagagamit. I want to learn more about baking, sana may affordable workshops that I can attend.
Yup I agree it’s not really our tradition! I just wrote about the same thing.
I always look forward to the trick or treating at our neighborhood and getting to dress up to scare the kids haha.
I love Halloween! I’ve been to New York recently and lots of people already had decorations around their houses. It’s great! I hadn’t thought about Halloween recipes yet. I will watch a scary movie on Halloween :). But now you inspired me to make a nice treat as well! The purple donuts are an incredible idea!
Angcute naman ng purple donuts!
And you have relatives in Cavite din pala sis. Have a safe trip!
Mukhang masarap ang purple donuts. My kids will love them for sure, lalo na my bunso who loves ube! We don’t celebrate halloween but I think these are good for any occassion.
