We may say that the true spirit of Bayanihan is still there. There are many civilians and companies doing their way to help in this most trying times of the new coronavirus, COVID-19. SM Supermalls through SM Foundation, is one of the many that step up to send help.
SM donated over PHP170M towards the fight against COVID 19, surpassing its initial allocation of PHP100 M. The donation aims to ensure that our healthcare workers in hospitals nationwide are armored with personal protective equipment (PPE). A part of the contribution also funded the purchase of ICU-grade ventilators to help hospitals manage patients with severe cases.
Among the many hospitals that already received PPE donations were the University of the Philippines PGH, Lung Center of the Philippines, and Jose N Rodriguez Memorial Hospital. These medical institutions are the country’s designated COVID hospitals.
Major government hospitals such as the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and National Kidney and Transplant Institute also benefited from the donation. San Lazaro Hospital, East Avenue Medical Center, and Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center were also not left behind. About 10 more hospitals benefited from the donation, and several shipments of PPEs are still on their way to provincial hospitals nationwide.
Indeed, the Filipino Bayanihan spirit shines through in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak. To the likes of SM Foundation, our sincerest gratitude.
