MOMI MUSINGS/ msbolin is no Spongebob before

Apr 6, 2016 | Only Berlin

Spongebob and his pet Gary. A drawing by my then six-year-old firstborn son.

bunso:  mama, is there such a word as Krusty crew?

mama:  none, baby.

bunso:  there is! It’s in Spongebob Squarepants.  Squidward is a Krusty crew.  He works at Mr. Krabs’ Krusty Krab and he is called a Krusty crew.

mama:  (ok, you got me there!)

*Spongebob is the kids’ first ever favorite television show.  They had a number of DVDs they never tire of watching almost every day.

I found this writing upon my cleaning yesterday.  Funny, my Big Bunso is only two years old then.

Watching Spongebob Squarepants one Sunday morning was an adventure –

It amazes me to look at my two-year-old son who attentively watches the film he’d already seen many times.  He is completely in awe still, oblivious of the many noises and actions around him.

It’s a delight to learn as well that Spongebob Squarepants, just like other Nickelodeon pictures, depicts lessons for both young and old.

I almost fail to remember my usual Sunday morning market duty. I,  too, watch in awe.

Spongebob Squarepants is often found to be annoying  by his rude neighbor Squidward and even by some mothers.  I had the chance to see  a few episodes and I must say that there are learnings despite the nonsensical adventures of the lead character.

Sea Spongebob who lives in a pineapple under the sea is the most optimistic character I have even seen.

As a fry cook at Mr. Krabs’ fast food restaurant, he displays a strong passion for his job and is indeed very excited to report for work.  He is often saddened whenever he cannot be at Mr. Krabs’ kitchen.  He extremely enjoys frying Krabby patty and takes good care of his spatula.  He never affects himself of Squidward’s poor performance at the Krusty Krab.

Displaying the same optimism that of Spongebob, I, however,  used to hop from one job to another during my early career in Marketing. Complaining about rotten bosses, lack of training, meager compensation, and so on were stories told — before.

Spongebob and his best friend Patrick’s jellyfishing is portrayed as a cheap, fun, and always in-season hobby . One only needs a  jellyfish net and a jar.  Spongebob recommends eyeglasses for safety.  Funny as he always is, he uses goggles though in one episode.

Should I hone my limited skills in writing, which requires a pen and paper only, I may not have wasted thousands of peso buying DMC threads and aida clothes NOW all neatly arranged  inside an equally expensive cabinet waiting for its owner to dust them off every so often.  Point is, my enthusiasm and energy level returned to down normal that I cannot find enough inspiration to kick-start my cross stitching.

Instead of taking the most logical approach to everyday challenges, Spongebob deals life in an unconventional way.  Too wayward that most bikini bottom sea creatures especially Squidward finds him annoying.

In the Idiot Box episode, for instance, Spongebob bought a brand new TV, trashed the big television set, and kept the giant box just so he and Patrick could play inside the box.  “Who needs a television when one has his (makes a rainbow with his hands) IMAGINATION,” Spongebob claims.  With I- Mag-In-A-Tion (lifting his arms above his head then a sparkly rainbow appearing), one can be anything he wants to be.

I am Squidward who thinks Spongebob and Patrick have become more stupid.  I prefer the giant television set than be inside the box and use my imagination.  Though I am dying to know how my grilled chicken would taste if I have the farm fresh mushroom or Mornay cheese, I still prefer my tried and tested old teriyaki sauce.

Spongebob is kind to Squidward. There may have been more than a dozen episodes when Squidward says NO  to Spongebob’s constant insisting, but Spongebob still keeps asking. Despite Squidward’s rudeness, Spongebob never tires to be nice to Squidward and even tags him as a best friend.

I do not have that character.  I resent those who resent me and think ill about them sometimes.  I sometimes rejoice knowing that my archrival is in pain or in trouble.  I think of her as generally very evil who uses every given chance to steal my happiness.  I consider her my Sheldon Plankton.

* It’s just great to backread and reflect on these writings.  That was me six years ago and now, I may say I have learned my lessons and now enjoy babysitting my seven-month-old boy.  I stopped looking for jobs as I have accepted to be a mother to my boys and blog / write when I have the time.  I may say I have learned to just pause and smile rather than be aggressive and confrontational.  I have learned what patience can do and be nice than smirk and make someone’s day miserable.

Just saw this entry today.

My brother loves spongebob. As in parang kapatid nya si spongebob kasi sobrang giliw na giliw sya pag nanonood nun. Parts of some episodes I saw because of rchy and yes, nakakatawa talaga. Maybe next time buong episode na papanoorin ko.

Will check sa kapatid ko kasi for all I know ay kumpleto rin ang Spongebob nya.

Nakapagshopping ka na ba for your work needs? Tara samahan kita!

Hehe, joke.

Shop for basics muna like black trousers/skirt/blazer/black or gray cardigan/basic tops para mix ang match ang drama.

Hay naku di ko magets yung liz uy and pnoy love team. LOL talaga.

Wish ko lang malastylist ang taste ko. Napakaunimaginative ko pagdating sa damit. Ikaw pala ang expert dyan! You’re the sharp dresser! Naks. Pero totoo yun. 🙂

Pag tinatamad kc akong magwork e tsismis with the ofcmates inaatupag ko. So palitan kami ng kuru-kuro haha. Upgrade ba yun.

Nothing beats the comfort of big bags nga lang. Parang laging may yakap. Ano ba yan. Halatang wala akong love life.

Hahaha, galit sa kanya si ruffa kasi type pa sya ni ruffa (more like dead na dead)pero si JL di na sya type. Tsaka never kc inadmit ni JL na naging sila ni ruffa so pati si annabel rama e galit na galit kay JL. Shucks, ang babaw ko. Haha

Parang yoko na ng starbucks planner. The last one I had (yung last year), di ko halos nasulatan. May planner kasi ako na mas gusto ko. Pero I want a cup of peppermint mocha. Now na!:D

I’ve not watched spongebob in years, it began on Nickelodeon when I was a kid and loved it then, my niece was a huge fan growing up too. But my 2 year old daughter hasn’t ever watched it and after reading your post I need to introduce her. I find that most programmes these days all have a certain lesson to be learned.

Yes, most cartoon shows impart lessons. They are after all, created by grown ups like us.

When I was a kid, I enjoyed watching Spongebob too and sing along with their theme song. However, after season three of Spongebob, I think it’s golden age has already ended. Spongebob went from being an innocent, misguided individual to being a moron. I couldn’t stand watching it anymore because it was outlandish. I hope they bring back their old writers or the new writers get a grasp of what Spongebob’s character should be.

I agree that the first few episodes are real fun and cool for children to watch. Now that the boys are in their tweens, they prefer watching Hacking the System already and other shows at Discovery Channel.

I would like to take the focus away from SpongeBob here. I believe than people should find reasons to happy with a job – that is positive thinking and it makes executing the job description better.

However, I believe too, that people should never settle. In your case, you have children to think of, and that means if finances could be improved, then it should be done or planned.

Hopping from one job to another is ok, as long as it is to seek higher level of employment or there are things that can be learned in preparation for something better.

I like the way you related your work experience to a cartoon show. Too often, people can find lessons here and there, and those same lessons has a bearing on life itself.

Thank you. The creator of Spongebob Squarepants or other cartoon shows are grown ups thus perhaps they use their experiences to teach valuable lessons to viewers.

Spongebob Squarepants is one of my favorites. I like how you were able to connect and reflect real life situations with Spongebob. Sometimes, we discover more of ourselves in unexpected instances and situations.

Spongebob is my favorite show! I remember being the fave Aunt because I watched this with my pamangkins. My sister used to get mad at me because of the show’s content. On hindsight, maybe it would’ve added more value to the kids if I told them which ones are good traits and are not. I guess that’s the good thing about parenting, it always is developmental.

Hurray to Spongebob lovers. Ihihi. The program sometimes show not so good things and traits and thats what we need to explain to our kids not to follow.
