How UNICEF Philippines and BDO Foundation Are Making Education More Accessible
As moms, we know how important education is for our children’s future. But for many kids in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), school isn’t always an option. Poverty, armed conflict, and lack of access to education have left many children and teens without the learning opportunities they deserve.

To help change this, UNICEF Philippines and BDO Foundation are working together to bring education closer to out-of-school youth in Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, and Maguindanao. Through the Alternative Learning System (ALS), this partnership will give 3,000 adolescents a second chance at learning—whether it’s re-entering formal school or gaining valuable skills for employment.
build a brighter future
Why is this important? BARMM has the highest illiteracy rate in the country, and many children—especially girls, those with disabilities, and those affected by conflict—struggle to continue their education. Without access to learning, their future opportunities become limited. But with the support of BDO Foundation, this initiative will expand ALS programs, making it easier for vulnerable youth to gain knowledge, develop skills, and build a brighter future.
By working with local governments and communities, UNICEF and BDO Foundation are ensuring that these educational opportunities don’t just provide short-term solutions but create long-lasting change. Because every child deserves a chance to learn, grow, and succeed—no matter where they are.
Education is one of the best gifts

As moms, we can all agree: Education is one of the best gifts we can give our children. And with this initiative, thousands of young lives in Bangsamoro are getting the chance to dream again.
