Join Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow 2024!
As a mom, I’m always on the lookout for ways to encourage creativity and problem-solving in my kids. That’s why when I came across Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow 2024, I got excited! It’s a fantastic opportunity for young minds to use their passion for science, technology, and innovation to solve real-world problems—and maybe even win some amazing prizes for themselves and their school.
If you have a child in grades 8-10 at a government-managed science high school, this is something to seriously consider. Imagine the pride of seeing them tackle important issues in their community, especially with the guidance of some of the best minds in the country!
What is Solve for Tomorrow?
Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow is a global program designed to empower students to develop creative solutions for local challenges—whether it’s a community problem, sustainability issue, or even something related to artificial intelligence. Launched globally in 2010, the program has reached millions of people across 50 countries, and now, it’s giving Filipino students a platform to shine.
Why it Matters to Moms (and the Future!)
As a parent, I love programs like this because they go beyond textbooks and classrooms. It teaches our kids to think critically and apply what they’ve learned in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to real-life situations. Plus, it fosters teamwork and leadership skills, which are so important for their future. Who knows? Your child could be the next tech innovator or sustainability hero!
How Does it Work?
Here’s how your child can join:
- Who can join: Open to grades 8-10 students of government-managed science high schools.
- Team setup: Students should form a team of up to four members and choose one faculty adviser from their school (each adviser can mentor up to three teams).
- What to do: Identify a local problem related to community welfare, environmental sustainability, or technology. Then, come up with a solution and present it via a slide presentation (5 slides max) or a Word document (up to 7 pages).
- Deadline: Submit your entry by October 25, 2024 on the official Solve for Tomorrow website.
The entries will be judged on innovation, relevance to the community, feasibility, STEM integration, and clarity.
Exciting Prizes Await!
The top 10 teams will be announced on November 13, 2024, and will receive expert mentoring to refine their solutions before presenting them to a distinguished panel of judges on December 3, 2024. Here’s what they stand to win:
- Grand Prize: ₱500,000 worth of Samsung devices for the school, ₱200,000 worth of Samsung devices for the students and teacher, ₱650,000 worth of tablets and a TV for the school, ₱100,000 for the team, and Samsung phones and tablets for both the team and their teacher.
- Second Prize: ₱350,000 worth of Samsung devices for the school, ₱75,000 for the team, and Samsung phones and tablets for the students and their teacher.
- Third Prize: ₱150,000 worth of Samsung devices for the school, ₱50,000 for the team, and Samsung phones and tablets for the team members and their teacher.
Even teams who don’t make the top three will still receive ₱15,000 for their efforts, with their teacher receiving ₱5,000. So no effort goes unrewarded!
Mentors and Judges Supporting Our Kids
This year, Samsung Philippines has partnered with organizations like Ideaspace Ventures and QBO Innovation Hub, which are known for supporting tech startups in the Philippines. There’s also DEVCON Philippines, a non-profit that promotes tech skill development, and Monchito Ibrahim, an expert in AI and analytics.
As a mom, it’s heartwarming to know that these established organizations are helping nurture the next generation of problem solvers. It feels like we’re part of something bigger, working towards a brighter future for all.
