BDO Foundation’s Newest RHU Rehabilitations

As moms, one of our biggest concerns is making sure our families stay healthy. Whether it’s regular check-ups for our little ones, vaccinations, or ensuring our elderly parents get the care they need, having access to quality healthcare is a must. That’s why it’s heartening to see organizations like BDO Foundation stepping up to improve healthcare services where they matter most—at the community level.

Starting 2025 on a strong note, BDO Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank, has successfully rehabilitated four rural health units (RHUs) in different parts of Luzon and the Visayas. These newly improved health centers will now benefit over 96,000 Filipinos, providing them with a more comfortable and accessible place for primary healthcare services.

Strengthening Community Healthcare

BDO Foundation’s latest projects include the rehabilitation of the Ivisan Rural Health Unit and Birthing Facility and the Sapian Rural Health Unit and Birthing Clinic in Capiz. Additionally, they’ve revamped the Peñarrubia Rural Health Unit in Abra and the Pilar Rural Health Unit in Bohol. With these improvements, more families can now experience better healthcare in their local communities. To date, the foundation has rehabilitated a total of 195 RHUs nationwide—an incredible effort in making healthcare more accessible to Filipinos.

A Safe and Comfortable Space for Every Patient

As a mom, I know how stressful it can be to bring a sick child to a cramped, outdated clinic. A good healthcare facility isn’t just about medical treatment—it’s also about providing a safe, clean, and welcoming space for patients. Guided by local government units and municipal health officers, BDO Foundation ensured that each RHU renovation improved both the interiors and exteriors of the facilities. Special areas were added for senior citizens, children, and breastfeeding moms, making each visit more convenient and comfortable for families.

Why RHUs Matter

Rural health units play a crucial role in every community. These centers serve as the first point of medical care for many Filipinos, providing essential services such as routine check-ups, maternal care, immunizations, and preventive treatments. Without well-equipped and well-maintained RHUs, families in remote areas would have to travel long distances just to receive basic medical attention.

“We want primary health care to be accessible and comfortable for Filipinos. We hope that our humble contribution empowers our health workers to provide better services, and helps patients receive better care,” said BDO Foundation President Mario Deriquito.

A Continuing Commitment to Healthcare

The work doesn’t stop here. BDO Foundation is continuously identifying and rehabilitating more health centers across the country. Through the support of BDO Unibank and BDO Network Bank branch officers, they assess which RHUs need assistance the most and provide them with the necessary upgrades.

For us moms, knowing that community health centers are being improved means peace of mind. It means that when our kids need a check-up or our elderly parents need care, they can receive medical attention in a clean, well-maintained facility. It means that expectant moms in these areas will have a safer, more comfortable birthing clinic. And most importantly, it means that healthcare is becoming more accessible to Filipino families, one step at a time.
