The Hills is having a baby on the way! The MTV reality show’s alum Jason Wahler and his wife Ashley recently confirmed they are expecting their first child. Yay!
Do things that move you to love and everything else will follow.
This has always been the advice my husband would give me every time I find it hard to decide. And after each successful decision, everything else seems bright and comfortable. Perhaps because I followed my passion or what I wanted myself to honesty do.
Even when I was working full time, I always prepare my kids’ school baon – one for lunch and another for recess. Sometimes, too, I overprepare and include fruits and extra biscuits or bread. I do not want them to get hungry.
Now that I am a full-time mom, all the more that I have the time in the world to prepare more nutritious school baon. Sometimes, though, I feel exhausted that wish there would be instant yet healthy snacks for them to munch.
Heaven and earth must have listened to my plea. As we do our monthly grocery, I would discover healthy, yet ready-to-eat food to all the more help busy moms tend to their everyday chores. And one favorite brand I often buy for my boys is Gardenia’s Pocket Sandwich. I always trust Gardenia in providing quality bread that truly satisfies my family. I remember my then grade 2 had a Gardenia Plant tour in Laguna years ago. I witnessed how the brand takes pride in its commitment to providing excellent service to Filipinos. I know I will never go wrong with buying its Pocket Sandwich for my children.
My mother turned 62 years old two days ago. And so we celebrated a week earlier as one of my sons has arranged an earlier commitment on February 25. We made our booking at Traveloka and stayed overnight at The Mediterranean House in Batangas.
Allow me to share with you the experience we had at The Mediterranean House.
The Mediterranean House
My love for open spaces and the warm sense of hospitality brought me to book an overnight stay at The Mediterranean House. This small hotel is tucked away off the main highway of Nasugbu, Batangas. If we did not ask for direction from a nearby sari-sari store owner, we might spend the night circling the area. My mom, who was driving that time, had hesitations accessing the very narrow path leading to the place. My boys, who were keen to take a rest, boosted my mother’s dwindling self-esteem.
We did not like the facade of the supposed hotel. The place did not look like a hotel at all. It was more like a pension house in the middle of a not so friendly environment. It is within a residential community and far from the well-known Tagaytay sceneries and tourist destinations. Even my boys were disappointed. They wanted a refund. My mom’s urging pushed my kids to get out of the car and carry our things inside the place. We had no choice. Darkness was fast approaching, and we needed a place to stay. We have been traveling for hours. Plus, we already settled the booking fee.
My hardworking husband
My better half resigned from work this month to concentrate on a construction business he set up. He would usually spend his days meeting clients and inspecting sites. At night, he would work on with his plans over a cup of hot coffee. Before I sleep, I always make sure we have hot water for him. He would drink about three cups of coffee to stay awake.
I may say he loves coffee so much. And I am sure on his meetings, he drinks more cups and mugs of his favorite drink. He may still drink some while on transit. Thus I am positive he will love what is waiting for him tonight.
Creating pleasurable meals and snacks for the kids can sometimes be a challenge. For one, they tend to love meat more than vegetables. Also, when at home, they are inclined to finish their school homework first that gathering them to eat together seem impossible. Funny that sometimes, too, they do not want to eat just because the food does not look appealing. Be that as it may, it is still important that children develop a positive attitude toward food. And to make it happen, moms or cooks of the house should make each dish tempting. Again, that becomes our challenge.
Momi Berlin would love to share with you a few proven techniques to make each mealtime a pleasant experience.
5 Tips to make mealtime Sarsaya
Grow vegetables and herbs at home
We started to grow some vegetables and herbs at home. This makes my boys excited to harvest them when I ask them to. We have calamansi for our pancit and even morning juice. We got some bell pepper for our pininyahang manok or chopsuey. We also started growing our own eggplant for our morning tortang talong dish. Growing vegetables at our front yard encourages my boys to appreciate them more. They are also swayed to eat a variety of dish with those produce as ingredients. It thrills them as well to take at least a few bite of squash, for instance, if they helped to plant or harvest them.
February is my mother’s birth month. She is such a hardworking lady that at age 62 years old, she is far from retiring. My mom works even on weekends though she has no one to support to already. She just does not want to be idle. Often, she would treat us luxuriously, and I am forever grateful for that.
As her only daughter, I would love her to face new life experiences even at an old age. She enjoys spending time with her four grandsons, so no better way to celebrate her birthday than a quick getaway. I booked for an overnight stay away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I would love her to enjoy listening to the sound of nature and for once, appreciate time as a luxury. She needs not worry about clients and the laundry. All she needs to do is relax. Because more than anything, she needs to rest.
For hassle-free vacation, I always rely on one online travel service – the Traveloka app. The app is very simple to understand, and gives me options on the first click. It is, after all, the fastest growing hotel and flight booking platform in Southeast Asia offering exclusive travel deals with no hidden fees.
Let me show you how friendly the Traveloka app can be.
They say low maintenance mommies are the greatest breed of them all. They need not bother their husbands to bring them to the salon and have that perm or haircut. Having dull nails are not a big issue at all. Getting a facial is very rare, and they will be eternally grateful for the treat.
Especially it did wonders for them.
Just like to this mom.
A beautiful you at Diana Stalder
I got an invite from dear friend Joy Mendiola about two weeks ago. It was for a Mask Sparty at Diana Stalder in Gateway in Cubao, Quezon City. I, together with other mom and beauty bloggers, were treated to a facial supreme. Diana Stalder uses a world-renowned skincare brand Casmara c40 bi-phase soya for this kind of treatment. This latest-generation facial mask combines two phases: the eye mask and the white soya facial mask. Both form a single mask when taken after about 20 minutes. The aesthetician who handled my face even gave me the mask. She tould me I could still use at home within 24 hours.
Opportunity knocks only once.
An old proverb once said. And many added that when opportunity knocks, be sure to answer the door.
I always believe that opportunities are aplenty in this vast world. Sometimes, though, we are not aware of such options or are not ready to grab them just yet. Does this make such opportunity a missed chance? I do not think so.
Opportunity knocks only once
They say opportunity knocks only once and there may not be a second chance. We need to be alert. But more than that, we need to identify if such option is an opportunity to advance ourselves. Sometimes, there are opportunities dressed as adversities and vice versa.
Let me share with you one opportunity I just had.
The missed opportunity
I got a job offer. It was for a writing post. I passed the series of interview and got a commendable grade on the sample article asked of me to write. I could start this week, much to my gratification.
I asked for the job details and compensation.
As a newly hire, I need to undergo a certain trial period. I am required to pitch a number of articles a day. And I need to submit the draft on the same day. For that, I would receive only less than half the compensation I was initially told. But after that trial period, I will get a fairly decent pay per approved article. The promise of a higher compensation comes in when I become a regular. The pay per article would be based on the total average page views.
I did not ask anymore when would one be regularized. I politely declined.
Where is your happy place?
I have come to know my boys love to stay at Timezone for hours. They could empty their power cards in an hour and would request for a reload. Nothing’s changed now that they consider themselves like grown ups. The more that they love to play, and would only stop when again, their cards got empty.
If my boys have found their happy place, I, too, got the chance to discover my own happy place. It is a place I would love to look around, shop if I have the resources, and chat with the owner or staff. I could also let my little man play at the cute activity area as I again, look and shop around. That place is where most moms like me converge and be in the know of the trendiest mommy and baby products. It is called 9 Months and Beyond.
