I am both happy and proud that Yael and I were able to survive our first six months of exclusive breastfeeding. Though he is my fourth child, it is a first for me to breastfeed directly.
We had some struggles with his latch for the first few weeks or a month, but we were able to pull through. We both enjoyed our mommy and baby bonding during those breastfeeding sessions. The last time I had our baby checked by his pediatrician, though, I was informed that he barely gained weight. He needs more food and even if breastmilk remains the most important source of nutrition in the first six months or perhaps a year of a baby’s life, our little man now reaches the development stage wherein milk alone is insufficient to sustain his rapid growth. Complementary food should be added to his daily diet in order to meet his nutritional needs.
