I am a Gen X mom living in the world of the Millennials. Technology has become an essential part of everyone’s life. And now, it seems most can’t imagine living without it.
I must say, a lot has been discovered, mostly for the comfort of many. From travel to communication, almost everything becomes possible. Technology is shaping the future, even making it compatible with nature. Aside from high-efficiency appliances, for instance, there are automated and smart devices that all the more make household chores easy and efficient. They simply add value to society and yes, simplify human life. Such an example is the best-selling UV sterilizer in Asia-Pacific which we happen to try and use.
Introducing, the Haenim Smart Sterilizer.
Our first sterilizer
The first time we had our sterilizer, it was just a plain cooking pot. It was not that big so I had to sterilize in batches. As my mother described it, boiling is the easiest way to sterilize baby feeding bottles.
I placed the bottles in the pot, in an orderly fashion. I filled it with water and covered it. The amount of water was important as the bottles should be completely submerged on it. The heat was on medium only and I would always wait for about five minutes to turn off the stove. Leaving the water to boil for more than five minutes may cause the feeding bottles to break. The same effect would happen when I add the bottles to the water that was already boiling. The shock from the heat may cause the plastic bottles to break. It was kinda inconvenient. But it was the only sterilizer I could afford that time.
I also bought a basket to place our baby’s sterilized feeding bottles. I used a tong to remove the bottles from the pot one by one.
We used the same pot for my second son. However, I opted for cheaper feeding bottles. Too sad, I kept on buying new bottles because they would break or have cracks during the process of boiling. I learned from that experience that not all teats and feeding bottles are suitable for boiling.
Our electric sterilizer
For our third son, my mom gave me an electric sterilizer. I questioned myself for not buying a similar one for my firstborn and second son. Well, I guess our priorities that time weren’t sophisticated sterilizers but more on earning money for our boys’ milk and vaccination.
I appreciated the convenience brought by our first electric sterilizer. The power of its steam is what naturally sanitizes the bottles and teats. I could even arrange the bottles neatly. The top rack is removable to accommodate taller bottles. I need not sit beside it as it automatically shuts down. Perhaps that’s the premium one pays for that kind of sterilizer. However, I still need a tong to remove the bottles one by one.
Our smart sterilizer
Technology has massively changed over the last decade. Smartphones are introduced and a recent study said that about 90% of people have their phones within easy reach. Likewise, these mobile phones have just been getting smarter that they can even be used to operate certain devices.
Let me go back to my sterilizer story.
The Haenim Smart Sterilizer we got has a Bluetooth function connected to its own app. It is easily downloadable from Google Play Store for Android users or App Store for iPhone users.
Through its Bluetooth function, I can easily set a few instructions and even turn off the sterilizer wirelessly. How convenient! I readily imagined myself finishing a television program I am watching while my sons’ bottles are sterilizing on their own.
It took me about two weeks before I finally opened the box. I was terrified to use it at first. Though it comes with a manual, I thought I will find it too hard to use. Because honestly, to save myself from thinking hard, I would prefer to use our old pot to sterilize our baby’s utensils.
However, my husband seemed to be too busy with his construction business that I was left alone to read the manual.
Ease of use
The Haenim Smart Sterilizer has an easy touch button system that even a three-year-old kid would understand. Its four different modes are Auto, UV, Dry, and Sterilized Storage. Operating it is as easy as pressing the right buttons, pretty much like using the television remote control.
Impressive storage space
It has a huge storage space wherein I could just leave our baby’s dining ware there to save on storage space. And with the proper setting, I could command the Haenim Smart Sterilizer to sterilize bottles every two hours for four times. That to me is real convenience. I could use the time with my boys instead of waiting for the device to finish.
Speaking of storage capacity, this Smart Sterilizer can hold up to 16 bottles! For kids who use feeding bottles that much, their parents can now sterilize one time instead of in batches.
Safe to use
I also love the fact that after the sterilization cycle, our sons’ utensils and bottles are warm to touch. I need not use a tong to get them out. Nor do I need another basket to air dry my boys’ feeding set. This is because this high technology sterilizer is equipped with a dual fan for heating and drying.
With our electric sterilizer, I worry about the water getting into the electrical parts of the sterilizer. I was electrically shocked once and I didn’t enjoy the feeling.
Compared with the sterilizer I used previously, there’s no water dripping incident with the Haenim Smart sterilizer. This is because, again, this UV powered device has a dry function.
Beyond feeding bottles
Now, here comes the best part if you still haven’t considered what I have mentioned as gorgeous features.
I breastfeed our two sons so we only use feeding bottles when I am not available and my husband let them drink my expressed milk. Since we don’t have that much feeding bottles to sterilize, we use this UV device to sterilize small toys, our toddler’s dining set, and even our toothbrush.
Would you believe husband even tried it to sterilize our mobile phones and remote control? He just opted for the UV function and all items inside were in a dry condition. A recent study confirmed that a television remote control is the single dirtiest item in a typical household. Very close is the mobile phone which is confirmed a hotbed for contagious germs.
Also, I once dried the teething beads I gave to my youngest using this Haenim sterilizer. I just used the dry function. It can even dry face towels and other silicone products.
I guess everyone would find Haenim Smart Sterilizer as incredibly sleek and modern. It stands beautifully on our kitchen counter and perfectly blends well in the interior design of our home. It doesn’t annoy me every time I go to our kitchen.
Well, there was a time I couldn’t find the perfect jar for our condiments so every time I make coffee for my husband, it irritates me to see our out-of-place condiments jar.
If you are wondering how Haenim Smart Sterilizer functions, it can eliminate 99.9% harmful bacteria on surfaces that are exposed to its UV-C light.
Husband explained to me, in his most layman’s term, that Ultraviolet light in the C spectrum (UV-C) is a highly energized wave. It destroys the protective walls of bacteria and germs, eventually killing them in the process. Or simply put, it deactivates the DNA of pathogens, destroys their ability to grow in numbers to eventually cause diseases.
Aside from protecting our toddler and baby from germs and bacteria found in their baby-ware, toys, and other household items, Haenim Smart Sterilizer functions beyond baby safeguarding.
If I may put my two cents in, Haenim Smart Sterilizer is something for keeps. This is the Generation X in me speaking in the world of the millennials. Because though technology today is sophisticated than my time, I am part of the first generation to grow up with the first computers and the likes. Technology is woven into my system and just like most Gen X individuals, I could easily adapt and be flexible. Because I have experienced hardship and economic depression, I know how to value what needs to be valued.
I know a gold mine when I see one. Pretty much like the Haenim Smart Sterilizer sitting on our countertop.
