MOMI SHARES| 5 Things to Consider Before Jumping Into Home Based Jobs

Jun 7, 2017 | Life, Live, Only Berlin

Working online is now becoming a trend. It is growing very fast because of the flexibility this type of job is offering. You don’t need to wake up early, you can work at your own pace, work anywhere, and a lot more.

Moms with little kids can now work and earn at the very comfort of their home. It’s now possible for parents to work while taking care of their young ones.

People who love to travel can now work anywhere they want. As long as they have their working laptop and source of reliable internet connection, they’re good to go.

There are a lot of third party websites where you can apply online. You just need to know what service you want to offer. Here’s an article that shows in-demand home based jobs you can apply for online.

However, despite the positive things these home based jobs can give an individual, there are several things people need to consider before diving into it.

5 Things to Consider Before Jumping Into Home Based Jobs

Isolation

Many people find that working from home can be very lonely. There are people who can withstand hours or days of solidarity. Some people just really need interaction because that’s what makes them feel energized.

You should be aware of the personality you have. This one may sound simple to introverts because they’re used to being alone most of the time. But for extroverts, this can be a deciding factor.

You need to do something to compensate for your need of social interaction if you think you’ll have trouble dealing with this.

Discipline

This is not as easy as your office job where there are supervisors always reminding their subordinates about the tasks.

With home based jobs, you are your own supervisor. You need to have the discipline to control yourself not browse unnecessary web pages or do distracting things. You need to exert extra self-control. It’s a lot harder to concentrate and focus when you’re at home.

Interruptions

When you work at home, there will be a lot of distractions and interruptions. If you’re a mother, you’ll face a lot of problems with your kids especially if they’re still in their infant to toddler stage.

Other distractions include barking dogs, clucking chicken, the sound of the vehicles passing by, and etc.

You can always reduce the risk of being interrupted if you have a dedicated room where you can work silently. You can also educate the people in your house to give them awareness that you are not just sitting there doing nothing.

Work More or Work Less

When you work at home, you either work more or you work less. A lot of people who work remotely usually perform less compared to those who are working in the office.

On the flip side, if you are somebody who’s workaholic, you might end up working more than what’s required of you. One tip, get a life!

One good practice is to always have a well-defined working schedule with specific working hours. You can use time tracking software to make sure you’re working just enough and it’s time for some other life activities.

Document Processing

Another thing you need to consider are the things you need to process like SSS, Pag-IBIG, Health Insurance, Philhealth, Tax, and etc.

With your office based job, the human resource department will process these things for you. If you’re going to work online, this can be very troublesome for you especially during the beginning.

If you’ve mastered these things, it can be very helpful. You will learn a lot of things which you cannot simply learn if you’re working in an office based job. You’ll be able to find programs that will exactly fit your needs.

Working home based

That’s it! These are some of the major things you need to consider if you’re planning to do online jobs. It will be a rough road at first but everything will be worth the effort and patience.

I know somebody from BPO company who jumped from call center to home based job and he’s now earning 6-digits every month! That’s how lucrative online jobs can be! If you know friends or relatives that are interested in new opportunities like these, share this with them!

I spoke to a previous workmate when I was just starting to work at home. She asked about my job and said hindi nya kaya mag work at home, kasi wala daw social life. So yes, I agree with #1, those who love working at home are mostly those introverts. I can’t say I am 100% introvert but I do love staying at home most of the time. I don’t mind social life, I can have that during Sundays (and occasional meetings with you, hehe). Agree on all these! My #1 requirement when working at home is laptop/pc, stable internet connection and savings (because it’s possible not to land a job right away).

Though I don’t really work at home, I can definitely agree with all your points. Whenever I blog, gusto ko tahimik lang din ayaw ko ng may distractions. hehehe! Ang galing naman nung 6 digits figures na earning. 🙂

Working from home and being my own boss really works from me. I am now enjoying more time with the kids, yes… a lot of interruption and I sometimes missed working with a group but I just focused on its benefits and think more about kids’ welfare.

Thanks for these tips. The #1 issue is really a big one for me. Sometimes, I feel like its the major consideration that I have if I am thinking of working at home. I dont have a big social circle, but I also dont think I can live with just me and my laptop. Maybe, work-life balance is the key.

I never really wanted to work at home. It was a last resort and was even introduced to me by my husband so that I can still keep my brain working daw. Haha! Since then, it gave me a steady income plus I am able to take care of my kids. It’s a win-win situation 🙂

I am an OFW and like to go home and try this home based job. Though sometimes I fear to go with it, and that I might now be successful and not able to support my family
