MOMI SHARES| ARCYLC: planting the seed of leadership with integrity

ARC Refreshments Corporation (ARC) is holding its sixth ARC Young Leaders Camp. It is slated this February 2017 at a training facility in Batangas . Prior the camp, 50 promising delegates gathered for a send-off program.  In attendance were the ARC executives, student representatives, partner-school officers, and camp facilitators.

ARCYLC: planting the seed of leadership with integrity

ARC is the licensed bottler of RC Cola International in the Philippines. Its culture of value-laden work and leadership is expressed through this banner corporate social responsibility initiative.  Now in its sixth year, the camp is stronger than ever in aiming to provide a suitable breeding ground for future Filipino leaders.

ARCYLC:  Educate. Engage. Empower the youth

ARC Senior Manager for Marketing Services Rizza Alfonso says in her welcome remarks that “Through ARCYLC, the company focuses on the youth.  We educate, engage, and empower them to become leaders of positive change.”  The three-day program will center in honing the leadership skills of the delegates while having a memorable experience of a lifetime.  They will be involved in a lot of team building activities.  Expected as well are workshops, discussions, and interactions with some of the country’s changemakers.

The camp, given for free to freshmen and sophomore college scholars, now opens to universities even outside Metro Manila.  Aside from the country’s prime state schools within the Metro, areas covered include Laguna, Cavite, and Bulacan.  This change came as ARC observed a significant number of hard working students belonging to the marginalized groups from these locations.  These students cannot afford the cost to attend leadership camps and training.

ARCYLC:  the delegates with youthful idealism

The company stands firm to its decision on training freshmen and sophomores.  ARC wanted to catch these students early while they are still full of youthful idealism.  About 300 undergraduate applicants underwent rigorous screening.  Each faced a panel interview conducted by the ARC executives.

“What set these delegates apart from other applicants were their evident leadership qualities.  They also expressed sincere determination to finish school despite the struggles.  They are all optimistic for a brighter future,” ARC Executive Vice President and COO Gerry Garcia points out.

ARC Executive Vice President and COO Gerry Garcia describes the Send-Off program as “A meeting of the minds where we learn from one another. We hope to be able to plant the seed of right leadership, of good leadership, and leadership with integrity.”

ARCYLC: planting the seed of leadership with integrity

Since inception in 2012, the ARCYLC has been dynamically evolving, but  remains to inspire these Filipino youths to “Lead, Create, and Change.”  And ARC continues to invest in them as they believe in these young people.

“It is ARC’s passion to build future leaders for our country.  We started planting the seed six years ago, and we continue to plant the seed.  We cannot make leaders overnight. But seeing our ARCYLC graduates move forward and outward, we can hope that the seed will grow in them.  We hope to be able to plant the seed of right leadership, of good leadership, and leadership with integrity.” ends Garcia.

I agree. Most of our leaders become one because of the outside force that pushed them to become one, And that includes responsible organizations and companies like ARC that sees the need to hone future leaders for the country.

Yes. And I hope this young idealism will remain until such time these leaders decided to serve the country. The Philippines is so corrupt, and I hope this young philosophy will not be tainted by dishonesty and misconduct.

Integrity is very important in leaders. They must do the right thing even when nobody’s watching. Glad there are programs that affect the youth positively.

It’s good to have programs like this for children! It’s a big opportunity for them to arm themselves for when they go out in the real world – and a great investment for society since we’ll have better adults. 🙂

I have often heard that integrity is what you do when no one is looking. Integrity deals with honesty and morality. Unfortunately, much of our news today has to do with the lack of honesty and morals, even within leadership. This is a great event perhaps because it’s the most difficult to teach our kids, integrity is an attribute that will change our children’s lives and the world.

ARC is doing a noble cause in helping bring up the future leaders of our nation with workshops and other activities for the youth. May this be a continuous effort and that other companies would work hand in hand with the same objective as well.

I wish all our kids will have that kind of mandatory leadership training in school. Although not all are meant to be leaders, everyone has a chance to be somebody great when they discover their strengths.
