SCHOOL PROJECTS| raise smart money smart kids

My grade three student is so excited to be at school today.  His class will be selling food for their Cha Ching class.  Cha-Ching is a financial literacy program to help parents and teachers raise smart money smart kids.  My son volunteered yesterday to prepare and sell waffle dogs while his other classmates opted for iced tea, stik-o, and cupcakes.

And so this morning, we woke up at 5 am to prepare for his waffle dog.

Fry some cocktail hotdogs.

Make the batter

Mix the pancake mixture, melted butter, egg and 3/4 cup water in one large bowl.  Mix until most of the batter is nice and even.

Preheat the waffle maker

We plugged it in and waited for the waffle iron to heat.  Most waffle irons have tiny light bulb as an indicator that these small kitchen tools are ready to use.

Brush the waffle iron with butter

This will prevent our waffles to stick in the waffle plate.  We made sure to brush both the top and bottom plates of our waffle iron.

Spoon in the batter

Spoon the batter evenly into the bottom plate of the waffle iron.  We only filled the plate half as we will still put in the hotdog cocktails on top.

Now that the hotdogs are in place, we added more batter almost making sure the hotdogs are nowhere to be seen.  Then we closed the waffle iron and waited for the red light indicator to notify us that our waffle dogs are ready.

Allow about two minutes for the waffle to form.   We added a few seconds more as we want our waffles brown.  Important reminder: The waffles will naturally puff thus no need to open and close the waffle iron.

Remove the waffle

A tong will help lift the waffle without breaking it into pieces.

And so these are buttered waffle dogs my bunso will sell at school.

Good luck, my Big Bunso and happy selling!

* March 2015.  I like this Cha Ching program in my Big Bunso’s school.  Cha-Ching is a financial literacy program that provides a platform for 7 to 12 years old children to learn (with the help of their parents and teachers) the knowledge, tools, and practice they need to make informed financial decisions.  This knowledge will surely come in handy when it is time for them to make their own personal goals and dreams.

They look so yummy! This reminds me of my favorite cheese waffle from Waffle Time. Anyway, it is nice to know that schools have this fun activity for kids to learn about financial matters.

Wow, how creative, those waffle dogs look so good and I am going to have to try and make them. What a great program to teach kids how to build a business and earn money, it’s a good financial lesson as well as how to save and spend smart.

This school program is interesting. It helps children at a young age start being business-minded! I make them realize how hard it is to earn money as well and that it doesn’t just fall from the sky. 🙂

Very delicious…reminds me of corn dogs albeit made with a waffle maker. Your son is such a great kid to volunteer for a worthy cause. Hope he sold a lot!
