MOMI EATS| Memory Lane in Tagaytay

Dec 12, 2016 | Likes, Only Berlin

For my mom, visiting old-fashioned houses in town was a trip down memory lane. So about a month ago, we took a walk to refresh our minds of the pleasures of the past as we dined in at Jolina Magdangal’s Memory Lane in Tagaytay.  I knew from the start my mother would love the place. She loves anything quaint and private, rustic yet dainty.  And she also has a CD copy  of the famous singer’s hit album, On Memory Lane.

I did not expect the boys to feel the same way but lo and behold, they did enjoy our stay. And it was because of the food.
Memory Lane is a restaurant  with a cutesy country home ambiance.  Inside, one could feel the 50’s and 60’s vibe as family photos, old movie posters, and vintage items are prominently displayed everywhere.

There is also a small corner for some souvenir shopping though I  found some items too unfashionable and outmoded.

The dining space is quite small, making it a perfect venue for a family or two to enjoy the room. But it may also be too crowded if the house went full. Good thing we only shared the restaurant with another big family.
Because we were in Tagaytay, we ordered for Bulalo (P695). We loved Memory Lane’s Tagaytay Bulalo. The beef was extra tender. The vegetables were firm and not droopy. And the soup, heavenly. For me, the best part of bulalo is the bone marrow, and the boys know this already. They always save the utak for me.
We also had Tender Juicy Baby Back Ribs (P520).  The children didn’t enjoy it as much as their father did. Though the meat was tender and juicy, I guess it still lacked that right flavor and spice. They may also improve their food presentation to make it more enticing especially for kids. The potatoes, though, were well-seasoned.

Firstborn introduced to me Dynamite Sticks (P265).  These are like cheese sticks made of finger chili (siling haba) stuffed with ground pork then wrapped in spring roll wrapper, deep fried until golden brown and crisp, and served with a special dipping sauce.  Everyone except Big Bunso and the Little Man tried and liked them.

My mom grew up in Amadeo, Cavite.  Her mother used to cook Tawilis a lot, so when husband saw Memory Lane serves Crispy Taal Tawilis (P175), we ordered one.  I tried one but didn’t enjoy it.  I thought the Tawilis he was referring to was the one wrapped in banana leaves and served inside a pot.  I was wrong.  But both my mom and husband loved the crispy tawilis.

We also got Chopsuey (P355) to go with our Tawilis and Pork Ribs.  I loved how the vegetables were cooked; not at all droopy.  Even the boys ate a plateful.

And lastly, for my mom who is always on a diet, she got for herself a bowl of Potato Salad with Bacon Bits (P175).  I teased her when I saw her order.  The potato salad was not for somehow who wishes to lose weight.  It was so heavy with mayonnaise and bacon bits.  It looked so tempting as well.  I took the bait and had some.  It was appetizing.

We were so full we opted to take a walk and head to another place for dessert.   The boys though preferred to go straight at Sky Ranch to play and enjoy the rides there.  We left Memory Lane with a smile on our faces as the restaurant gave us a comfortable place to enjoy the day, a delightful set of food to warm and fill our stomach, and a beautiful trip down memory lane.

I know this one pero never tried. The last few times kasi we stayed at Tagaytay Wingate, and this is on the way. Akala ko before souvenir shop lang siya. One thing I am impressed with. It is well decorated and at night, ang ganda ng lightings niya. It is as if para siyang candy house in the middle of nowhere.

the place looks very small a quiant, maybe it will be great for outdoor photography, since the colour is quite cute. But other than that I felt that this place is a bit too small for me, I haven’t been there myself but it seems like a very quiet and homey place. =) Glad you have a good time with your family there.

I love the food selections that you have featured. They all looked so delicious. I am not eager about the Potato Salad. I do not like mayonnaise. The place looks so lovely. The souvenir shop looks like papemelroti shop.

I have been here before. I just didn’t get to try the food coz my date had other plans but I love how quaint it is. It’s so picturesque and definitely instagrammable. I hope I can visit again soon.

Those mini crosses on the front yard, are they like fake tombs? So cute! I would love to check out this place, I am really into themed restaurants and this one definitely looks interesting. I find the food a bit pricey though, I hope they are worth every penny.

Memory Lane looks lovely, just like dining in someone’s home. It seems like the food was a bit hit and miss but you still found some winners. Just like your Mum I am always on a diet but it never seems to stop me eating lol. Glad you guys had a great day out.

I always hear about this place but haven’t visited yet or hindi lang kasi siya along the road? Our family loves tawilis, whenever we visit Tagaytay, we always buy this dried fish. Hawig kayo ng mom mo. 🙂

Yes, it isnt along the highway. Way there is a small road opposite Leslie’s, Balay Dako, Starbucks, and Max’s.

OMG! I love the place! It’s soooo IG worthy. I would love to dine here. The food looks appetizing as well. Quick question, is it near the Sky Ranch?

I am so bad with direction but Memory Lane isnt along the high way like Sky Ranch. Way there is a small daan opposite Leslie’s, Balay Dako, Max’s and Starbucks.

I can’t believe that there is a place like that in the Philippines. It looks like somewhere in Europe! Anyway, I agree that this place truly IG worthy. And the food, the presentation is IG worthy too. I especially curious with the Dynamite Sticks. I think it tastes delicious. I love spicy hot food!

We frequently visit Tagaytay and haven’t visited Memory Lane, though we always pass by the place. The place looks nice in your pictures, though admittedly, small – just good for intimate family gathering. Siguro we’ll visit this place sometime when we go to Tagaytay again. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I guess Memory Lane deserves a visit from your next Tagaytay travel. Though the food is kinda hit or miss, the ambiance will surely make up for the misses.

I have never heard of Jolina Magdangal before but I’m sure that would not have marred my experience here with all that amazing food on offer! I love the ambiance of the place and it encourages me to know that your boys enjoyed it too even though you thought they might not. The baby back ribs looks absolutely delicious and I want to know more about those dynamite sticks!

Those dynamite sticks are appetizing. They are long chili pepper but the seeds are removed and stuffed with ground pork. Then wrapped with lumpia wrapper, deep fried and served hot. Try them. 🙂

The whole family is planning a vacation in Tagaytay soon and now I can reco a resto. Though I feel that the food is a little heavy on the budget. Chopsuey was quite expensive for 300+ ah.. However, the photos were good and I think the food were delicious too.

Most are delicious, some ok but the place may do the trick and help you forget about the not so nice part of the meal. But honestly, most of what we ordered naman were appetizing and delicious.
