Silence your ego.
Seems too complicated but indeed simple and true. Often, our false mind or ego leads us to destructive thoughts and actions. It is that little voice inside that pushes us to worry and even suffer. Ego simply locks us in our own little world.
This was the same difficulty Doctor Strange faced when he lost the use of his hands in a car accident. He traveled to Tibet in search of the mysterious temple of Kamar-Taj. At the start, he only had some selfish purposes. He wanted his hnds to function fully again. Eventually, though, together with a lot of intense fight scenes, our once egoistic surgeon faced some real character development. In the end, he immersed as a more compassionate individual and forgiving to himself as well.
#FreeTheJoy Nuffnang Contest
This is just one of the many learnings from watching “Doctor Strange” last Thursday. Momi Berlin was among the many lucky ones who got an invite from Nuffnang to watch this 2016 American superhero film. She won this exclusive screening perk after blogging about Cadbury Dairy Milk’s limited edition Christmas flavors. Together with husband, they headed to Shang Cineplex in Mandaluyong. And after the movie screening, they were even treated with big bars of the Limited Edition Cadbury Dairy Milk Christmas Flavors. Yey! Such a delightful pasalubong to their three boys who volunteered to look after their one-year-old brother so the dad and mom could have a date.
There was another favorite learning I got from watching Doctor Strange. I find it too helpful that I often hear myself murmuring it to remind me to
Forget everything you think you know.
Just like Doctor Strange, some of us are afraid to let go of the things we thought we already know. This hinders us then to discover beyond that knowledge. Oftentimes, this fear cripples us and keeps us glued. All along, we thought we are improving and acquiring knowledge. But we are wrong. We only know what we know. We hold on tightly to what is familiar and comfortable. And we think that is our life already. We stop acquiring new learnings because we are afraid to go beyond our comfort zone. It is not until we acknowledge the fact that it is such a great gift to oneself to enter the world of new experiences will we appreciate life more. And that was what Doctor Strange accepted. He decided to take the plunge and let himself not know for the first time.
And after such decision only did Doctor Strange discovered the unimaginable, felt real joy, and discovered life’s purpose. I, too, am looking forward to such indescribable feeling.
The indescribable joy
Again, our ego will only lead us to destructive thoughts and actions. Let us not be afraid to forget what we know and explore other possibilities. I just did when I decided to join the #FreeTheJoy with Limited Edition Cadbury Dairy Milk Christmas Flavors contest of Nuffnang. I never thought I could make it but I did. I was afraid to leave my one-year-old son with his siblings in the middle of the night for fear he will not be properly taken care of. Again, I was wrong. When we went home, the house was a mess. But our little man was comfortably settled in his big brother’s warm embrace.
The following morning, just before the boys went to school, I handed to them their huge Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolates. And as anticipated, each got the limited edition Cadbury Dairy Milk flavors which very much match their personalities. And there are still a few bars left for this momi, the husband and even for the little man. Yey, I have my Cadbury Dairy Milk Black Forest to accompany me as I work for more blog entries and contests to join. But as I left my working table to get some water, I found the little man feasting on my favorite chocolate.
