It is after they took a calligraphy class when she learned that beyond acquainting oneself on the decorative style of handwriting, there are valued lessons from this art of writing.
I learned of his interest in calligraphy when I saw him experimenting with his handwriting. From then on, I would buy him books and pens to support his new found love. Seeing that he enjoys following the book and even watches some tutorials on youtube, this mother decided to look for classes to help her son level up.
Fortunately, an opportunity to learn clay art led me to know The Crafters Marketplace. A go-to-place of hobbyists, The Crafters Marketplace is a small yet pleasant craft shop offering cute knick knacks from pen holders to handmade necklaces and stationeries. We enrolled in a 2 1/2-hour calligraphy class with Honey and Joe as our teachers. The husband and wife tandem is very passionate about their craft that it very well reflect on how they handle the class and how they answer each query. They are patient and generous to even share tricks on how to save on ink or how to write legibly.
After the class, I asked my son if he enjoyed. He said yes. I checked as well if he learned something new. He said he learned of discipline. I asked him to elaborate. And I am just so happy he sees and thinks beyond –
He wants to improve everyday and so he needs to allot time to practice. He knows so well that practice makes perfect. And he says discipline is needed to follow his schedule to practice.
Aside from discipline, he mentioned about Perseverance.
He says calligraphy itself is hard. But despite that, he reassures me he will not give up. He will give time to practice and each day, there will be improvements.
More than anything, though, he learned the basics of calligraphy. And it was all he needs- he told me- to explore and develop.
And as for this mother, she learned that it is never too late to learn something new. Calligraphy is something alien to me and yet the fulfillment and happiness I feel every time I see my handwriting improve is just so overwhelming. I also have to credit my son for pushing his mama to discover her passion.
She has always love calligraphy. She prefers, though, to continue dreaming and imagining herself doing calligraphy until her son showed enthusiasm. She joined her son and together they explored something new. And they both enjoyed.
What to pursue that passion? The Crafter’s Marketplace holds regular Calligraphy sessions at their cute workshop studio at the Rustan’s Supermarket in Shangri-la EDSA Mandaluyong City. You may check the schedule at their Facebook page.
