Our lady neighbor asked her children to go inside and take a bath. They handed over to Bunso his plastic sword and gun. The little lad waited outside for his playmates to return. I encouraged my son to just wait inside, but he refused. Bunso was heartbroken.
I got a bottle of Yakult and a pouch of kisses from the refrigerator. “Bunso, mama prepared something for the little boy,” I called. He hurriedly climbed up the chair and consumed everything in minutes.

The kids are suffering from rice fatigue. Our rice might be too plain; the kids are eating more pork or chicken. As a mother, I am deeply concern. Experimenting with food has been a hobby and so far, this momi is happy with what she is seeing now-

Living in with four boys, food preparation has always been a challenge. Often, they would demand something new on our dining table. Good thing this mother has her ways to please her demanding housemates. Food recycling is something she has learned to master, too. Throwing leftovers is a definite no-no to her.
Usually, the boys prefer different menu each meal. It counts, too, if the food is aesthetically pleasing or creatively presented. just like these hotdogs on the stick.
Everyone enjoyed his hotdog. But what would happen next to the poor cabbage used as a stand for the hotdogs on the stick? The pitiful cabbage got holes on it, something not pleasing to look at but too precious to throw.
This mother chopped the battered vegetable and sautéed it with some ground pork and tomatoes. And the boys enjoyed the sautéed cabbage without them knowing that it once had punctures from the barbecue sticks.
sautéed ground beef
Usually, our Sunday is market day. This mother would always buy two kilos of ground beef. She would sauté it and keep it inside the refrigerator. And one would be amazed by the variety of viands one creates from just a simple sautéed ground beef. This mom would put some diced carrots and potatoes, a little beef broth on it and we have picadillo for lunch.
For breakfast, she simply makes an omelet with the cooked ground beef as filling. Or she would sauté more the ground beef with potatoes, carrots, green pepper and some spoonful of tomato sauce. She would fry some bananas and make sunny side up egg. This could be another morning meal — arroz a la cubana.
Still got some ground beef? This mother would use them as toppings for our nachos! The boys so love nachos for merienda or any time of the day.
Food preparation could be so damn tiring. But if one uses his creativity and some menu planning, preparing food could somehow be enjoyable, too. This mother admits that there would be days she hates cooking, but there would also be times that she is so inspired to prepare their meals. It must have been the love and concern she always feels for her boys.
