Making up for lost time.
Firstborn into soccer
From afar, I could see that Firstborn is enjoying his soccer class. He smiles as he kicks the ball, high-fives with team members, and claps every time their team makes a goal. He chats with new friends during the water break and observes each player in the field. A summer activity made possible because this mother has time for her kids now.
Saturday was the day when husband and I were the proudest. We have two boys who kept going up and down the stage to receive academic distinction and inter-school achievement awards. Though the program was rather long, it didn’t take the smile off our face. Thank God the weather was also very cooperative. Everything the students practiced for five days wasn’t put to waste. And everything we sacrificed and gave as parents were all worth it.
That was my Firstborn’s Facebook status. He sounded excited for that day’s tomorrow. And this mother prepared something for her binatilyo.
1. believing in health is wealth
Though very cliche, still health is wealth. After our breakfast, we visited our favorite pedia. The boys got their second dose shots to protect them against pneumonia, hepatitis a, diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis.
Vaccines do save lives, but most children do not like shots — my boys included. Our pedia visit wasn’t a pleasing one, especially for Firstborn who cried after receiving the vaccinations. The terrifying injection made him all gloomy throughout the trip to the hotel (where we checked in for the night). He simply could not accept that he needed the booster vaccine on his birthday.
Congratulations, boys! You very well deserve the recognition as all of you gave your best for the school year 2013-2014. We, your parents, are so blessed to have you as our children.
Congratulations, Big Bunso

It has always been your perseverance and your belief in your ability that lead you to your success. You always walk that extra mile and so sweet of you to always think of your mama as your inspiration.
Thank you for your dedication to learn more.
Congratulations, Second son

I like this quote.
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
I am certainly not belittling my son. Never will I do that. I just find the power of the force working alongside my boy that he is able to reach his goals. More than good luck though, he truly and deeply works hard to be at his place. He is his class’ first honors and recipient of six academic excellence awards.
March 27, 2014
I thank the Lord for giving us a responsible Firstborn. He excels in class, and just this Wednesday he got a bronze medal for being Grade Five’s top three. He also brought home a Best in Civics award.
I often tell myself that should Firstborn focus more on his studies, he would have been his class’ first honors. He has the ability to be one. He has such an analytical mind. He uses his imagination to run through how some things may play out. He has the focus if he wants to. It is just that most of the time, he prefers to chill out.
And then, when we went on stage to receive his recognition, I had my realization. I don’t know if it’s too late for me to have that realization but still, I’m happy that I was able to recognize a fact about my son.
Firstborn is one carefree person. He is full of love and happiness. I need not push him too hard as he might have the tendency to rebel or meet neither success nor happiness. He is moved by his love and of that interests him. He needs not absorb everything as this might defeat his true identity.
I’ve seen how he reacted when he had those medals. He was very happy.. and proud! He glanced back at me so he could remember my smile. And he couldn’t wait to show to his papa his medals. Because it has always been love and happiness that push him to act.
As for this mother, I am now at ease to know that my Firstborn is one playful son with great intelligence. I am confident that with all these achievements, he will be able to know his strengths and realize who he is becoming through the process.
The kids are all excited for their summer vacation. Summer vacation though is not all fun and games. This mother would like to stress the need to share the workload. I always believe that everyone in our family should help in the household chores. This, as I see it, is part of “my-good-and-responsible-boys-in-the-future plan.” Also, I would like to stress to them that being kids do not merit them an excuse to be idle and avoid regular chores. Chores will definitely teach them responsibility and discipline.
And so, before I leave the house, I always remind the boys of some tasks to do. I make use of our whiteboard to help remind them of their house tasks. Aside from this mother’s instructions, there are boxes opposite each chore which they could tick once done. The board is also open to suggestions and comments.
Congratulations, Big Bunso!
How was Big Bunso’s performance for the third quarter ? His class standing slid down from second to the third rank. His general average though improved from 93.50% to 94. 06%.
He woke up early that Sunday. He reminded me that I need to see his teacher and get his report card. He even requested if he could come with me. He was very eager and excited to look for his name at the bulletin board.
I was also confident that day that he will be part of the honors roll. He treats his schooling with great importance. Sometimes he would stumble, perhaps to remind him to slow down a bit, but he would always stand up and keep moving. Why? because more than fame, he would always tell me that he wants his mama be proud of him.
I am always proud of you, Big Bunso!
Congratulations, Second Son
To be natural is such a very difficult pose to keep up.
Says one literature I once read. But looking at you, I would say that you always display exceptional enthusiasm in your studies. Though some issues on bullying and cheating surfaced by the end of the second quarter, those did not demoralize and dishearten you. As your subject teachers would describe, you always excel in classroom discussions and examinations. You are even best remembered as the courteous student who would prefer to read books during breaks and recess. You do not need to pretend. You always act very naturally!
Thank you, our dearest Second son, for giving much attention to your studies. We may not be that rich to buy all we could wish and desire, but you always make me feel so blessed!
My Tuesday was extra sweet and very special. And I am just so proud of my three boys for not only being the sweetest tots but for having achieved school honors this second quarter because of good grades and good behavior.
Firstborn was grade 4’s second honors. He also got the best in music recognition award.
Sen Nikki Cseteng (to firstborn): What instrument do you play?
Firstborn: I play the piano!
Sen Nikki Coseteng (to this mom): That’s good! Music and playing piano may well be a good move to help kids stay focus and excel academically.
Momi Berlin: Yes, I believe so too, Senator.
Our family has been so blessed. My three boys got academic recognition from school. Even the husband passed his Real Estat Broker Licensure Examination that same month.
Academic Recognition for Bunso
Bunso has successfully completed the casa curriculum prescribed for Casa level by the Department of Education. Aside from his diploma, he also graduated fifth honors. He was his class’ best in English and best in Writing as well. Teacher Luz also commended bunso’s diligence and gave him the most industrious award.
Academic Recognition for Second Son
The second son had his share of moments when he repeatedly went us and down the stage. He received a number of awards on his Recognition Day.
He placed second honors. He bagged two academic recognitions – Best in English and Best in Mathematics. And aside from his scholastic achievements, he also received the following recognitions: most behaved, most active, most responsible, most honest, and most obedient.
The school also commended him for representing the Montessori on the Battle of the Brains for the primary level.
Real Estate Broker Licensure Exam
Husband passed this March’s Real Estate Broker licensure exam.

1. Top three of his class.
2. Excellence awardee for Best in Music.
3 A special award for getting the highest increase in general average for the school year 2011-2012.
I truly thank God for giving me a husband who has a career that can support his family so I may be able to stay home and look after our boys.
And I thank Him again for giving us three healthiest, most loving and beautiful, and the smartest children in the whole world.
