Experiencing New Flavors and Revisiting Old Favorites at Shang’s GourmetFest

Experiencing New Flavors and Revisiting Old Favorites at Shang's GourmetFest

For about 10 years, I worked in Ortigas.  But I was the type of employee who would go home after serving my employer for at least eight hours.  We’ve got three boys already, and we did not have a house help so I would always rush home.  Perhaps that explains the fact that I am not familiar with any restaurant or store within the nearby Shangri-La Plaza Mall.

Last Wednesday, we were invited to a GourmetFest at Shang’s Grand Atrium.  I must admit I am not familiar with all the restaurants, but it didn’t stop me not to sample each dish presented to us.  I had a gastronomic trip around the world as Shangri-La rolled out a delicious spread of some of its most exquisite dishes.  22 restaurants served up an assortment of dishes from varied cuisines – from European to American to Asian.

The Gourmet Fest lasted for four days from October 18 to 21.  It showed to mall guests that the Shang is indeed a go-to destination for the best food in town.  During the four-day fest, there was also some live demo and workshop led by some of the best chefs in the country.  Exciting promos from the restaurants were also up for grab.

Akira and SumoSam were some of the familiar Asian favorites that participated and served impressive Japanese dishes.  There were also Zao, which offered a taste of Vietnam, and Arya that served the best Persian cuisine.  Thai BBQ and Pepper Lunch both gave generous servings of their spicy dishes, while Ganso Shabuway offered their famous Japanese style hotpot specialty.  I guess almost everyone loved Shi Lin‘s xiao long bao soup dumpling as each burst in the mouth and guests get to savor the meat, the broth, and the dumpling skin.

For those who love all-American offerings, I bet they had an adventure trying Kettle, Epicurious, and Tender Bob’s.  Even Pepi Cubano was always full that I wasn’t able to try their famous and unique sandwiches.  But I didn’t miss the chance to get a slice of pizza at my favorite California Pizza Kitchen.  There was also Red Crab and their fresh, juicy crabs.

New Flavors and Old Favorites

I had fun experiencing new flavors and revisiting old favorites.  I went home full and happy, and somehow regretted not bringing with me my son who loves to explore and experience new flavors and old favorites.  But good thing that before joining the Gourmet Fest, I met with my former Managing Director at the Bo’s Coffee.  She gave me two boxes of Paper Moon which I gave to my boys as a pasalubong.  Both were part of the GourmetFest line up where one can get a chance to win a trip to Singapore via Singapore Airlines.   Even if you’ve missed the four-day fest, you can still join and get a raffle coupon when you dine in any restaurant at Shangri-La Plaza and spend at least P500.  The promo is from October 18 to November 18, 2018.  The trip for two raffle is with hotel accommodations and Singapore Explorer Pass Tickets.

Sounds like a very delicious event. I am not familiar with some of the restaurants you mentioned but I do would like to dine at California Pizza Kitchen again. I particularly love their pumpkin soup and their pizza! This event makes it even more delightful to visit Edsa Shang.
