Anecdotes from tots: There’s no stopping my kids to speak or write their thoughts. An unpainted wall that divides the den and my mom’s room.

Anecdotes from tots is a compilation of those  fun musings and statements of my three boys.

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS ON NO WORK, NO PAY

October 21, 2010, bedtime

Momi:  Time to sleep. now.  Enough of that.  Pray first, ok?  Pray that you will get 100% on tomorrow’s exam.  If you scored 100%, I will buy you a new toy.

Second son:  How come?  You do not work.  You do not have money.

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS: Spongie and Petty, the two hermit crabs

1.  8:00am.  The second son woke up

2.  went outside and water the plants

3.  stopped by his pets’ aquarium and fed Petty and Spongie, his two hermit crabs

4.  saw the two empty water pitchers near the stove.  Filled them up with drinking water and put inside the ref

5.  sat beside me and helped me fold underwear and socks.

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS ON WHY IS THE WATER NOT BLUE
October 26, 2010

Finally, dear friends R and Z tied the knot.  We were among the few invited friends to witness their cake-cutting and first toma as husband and wife.

Bunso immediately noticed dear friend R’s pet turtle.  “Why is the water not color blue?” he asked loudly.  The two turtles were inside a big aquarium.  The water was too muddy and dark; it might have confused Bunso’s thinking that water should be immaculately clean.

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS ON SNAKES AND LADDERS TEACHES ADDITION

October 28, 2010

Bunso:  six plus three?

Momi:  I do not know.  What is the answer then?

Bunso:  Nine!

Momi:  Very good.     Where did you learn that?  Kuya taught you?

Bunso:  No, from snakes and ladders. Six die plus three die equals nine.

The kids use two dice when they play snakes and ladders.

*  bunso is in kindergarten.  they are into shapes, colors and numbers.  no addition yet.

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS ON ZOO ANIMALS IN A FARM?

October 29, 2010

I was playing Farmville when Bunso approached me and asked, “Is that our farm?”

I nodded with a smile.

“Then why are there elephants and cats?  I thought elephants are  zoo animals while cats are pets,” he curiously asked.

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS ON BRIEF CONVERSATION WITH GOD

November 2, 2010, bedroom

9:56 pm  I asked the kids to sleep.

10:15 pm After their milk, kids went to bed.

10:47 pm  I followed the kids to bed.  I found the two boys lying on their side with a pillow on top of their ears.  They might have seen my puzzled look,  they pointed their eyes to the sleeping papa beside them.  The husband was snoring real loud.

I advised the boys to pray and everything will be OK after that.  Then I heard Bunso’s conversation with God.

“Patulungin po ninyo kami.  Patulungin po ninyo kami matulog na.  Sana wag na maingay si papa.” (Please help us.  Please help us sleep.  We pray that papa stops making noise.)

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS ON WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORD FAST

November 4, 2010, living room

dsc04924

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS: a framed drawing of Second son. Obviously in his drawings, he likes everything that moves FAST.

I instructed Bunso to write faster.  He was spelling the word twelve and he was too slow.

He stared at me and said, “kuya advised me not to write too fast.  My teacher also said I should write legibly and slowly.”

dining room.

I told Second son to hurry up.

He told me politely, “Our teacher said we should not eat too fast.  We should chew our food well.  Haven’t we read that as well in my science book?”

outside.

The rain started to pour.  I grabbed Bunso’s hands.  “Hurry up.  Here comes the rain,” I told him.

“Mama, why walk so fast?  The walkway is too slippery.  We should walk carefully.  You told me so before,” he said in a didn’t-you-say-so tone.

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS ON KALUPAN (kalimutan, meaning  forget)

November 6, 2010

dsc05232.jpg

At age 6, Bunso’s prioerity is playing

bunso:  what’s next to watch tv?

momi:  eat dinner.

bunso:  what’s next to eating?

momi:  brush teeth and clean self.

bunso:  what’s next to brush teeth and clean self?

momi:  drink milk then sleep.

bunso:  what’s next to sleeping?

momi:  eat breakfast.

bunso:  huh.  eat again?  kalupan* mo ang playing talaga.

*kalupan is kalimutan (forget).

ANECDOTES FROM TOTS ON BROKEN BONES

November 8, 2010, 11am

We were getting Bunso ready for school when he suddenly cried and acted as if his right arm was in pain.

bunso:  mama, my arm is broken.

momi:   (was worried big time!) huh, what…

bunso:  because you didn’t buy banana.  We should buy banana because banana cares for my bones.

momi:  (asus, pure acting lang pala).

*  bunso loves banana.  I always tell the boys  that banana is rich in potassium which makes bones stronger.

ANAECDOTES FROM TOTS ON TOP SHOT FANATIC

November 13, 2010

Bunso and Second son are now Top Shot fanatics.  Last Thursday, I saw how the two boys repeatedly insisted that husband stops switching channels and just tune into History Channel.  They want to see Kelly or Kevin (?!?) win the competition.

Top Shot is an American sharp-shooting reality series show that features 16 skilled marksmen, competing in various types of shooting challenges.  One by one, each will be eliminated until only one remains and gets the title of “Top Shot” and receives a $100,000 grand prize.  The show is hosted by a Survivor  contestant named Colby Donaldson.

By the way, Top Shot is aired every Thursday at History Channel.  Time:  eleven o’clock in the evening!

Much to my delight, the boys still watch Spongebob Squarepants, Ben 10, and other Nick or Disney shows.

It’s so great you kept a log of these. With time sometimes moments like these begin to fade. I feel like I can’t remember some of the things my kids said and did… I’m sure he’ll appreciate the effort when he’s older.
